I have nothing really to add, but I just wanted to mention that I like reading the above quote. :D

That derivative part is the kicker. There are lots of guns that are prohib just because they look like the banned gun. The Imbel MD2 is one. Nothing like the FAL other that a couple external parts and the looks.

How wide or how strict is the criteria to be considered a derivative?

its complicated and the main reason THAT ANYONE THAT IS NOT A PRO SHOULD NOT CONTACT THE RCMP sorry but there always an idiot ####ing this kinda of things as of late because they tought they could make a quick buck. Pro importer like TSE or wolverine MIGHT have a chance here.

Nobody knows. It has not been examined by the RCMP lab or submitted to DoS for export from the US.

But if that company wholesaled them to somewhere in lets say a wholesaler in Scandinavia, etc, then the other wholesaler could ship them to Canada. :p

They have videos on there site saying its an aug variant. RCMP forensics looks specifically at marketing to decide if something is a variant. It will be prohibited.

You are incorrect. The video said "derivative" , not variant. THis makes a lot of difference. The two words are not interchangeable and have different meanings. Please do not make conclusion based on incorrect quotation.

The MSAR Stg is carefully designed and marketed as not a variant of Steyr AUG, otherwise there will be legal ramification.
