Chief calls to end moose hunt in B.C. following wildfires, habitat loss

The fight is about to start everywhere in Canada , hunters need to get prepared ... Look what happened in the Yukon this fall on caribou hunts .. Under hunting section ... The government of Yukon cancelled caribou permits in a large area with no study just at the demand of the First Nation .... It's coming to all provinces..dark days are ahead

in the meantime our liberal government has already stated they need to find ways to reduce canadian's desires to own and use firearms. They are not talking about crimminals here , they are talking about US. So it is no surprise to me that across the board, we are seeing reductions and restrictions on hunting in nearly every province.

I know folks are frustrated with the first nations issues but this really all falls on government.
I am metis and have a constitutionally protected right to hunt fish and harvest BUT the province i live in refuses to recognize those rights. I am from a family that descends from Chief Little Hunter, signor of treaty 6 ..... yet "my" rights mean nothing.
so if my rights mean nothing I think maybe it's time we level the playing field between residents and aboriginal hunters and the guide outfitters can fold up shop and piss off.

The Powley decision in Ontario was a start and licences are now issued to Metis hunter. I agree with you - it’s very uneven across the country and needs to be addressed. Métis rights are constitutionally recognized just as First nation and Inuit rights are recognized

I would not suggest the first nation-or metis do mot have treaty rights, I'm just suggesting common sense prevail on some issues. First nation continually trying to stop legal hunting and fishing by non first nation tax paying Canadians.... will not bring harmony.. it will just drive a bigger wedge between all parties. And just because you have a legal right to do something doesn't always mean you need to do it. We all need to get over the blame game, no one should say get over the past but at some point we need to move past it and strive for something better than its someones fault. Would it be so bad to have ALL hunters have to report kills for conservation?? or have seasonal closures for ALL hunters to conserve??

the folks "governing" the BC Metis Nation are a disgrace in my opinion. They can shove thier "harvester card" right up thier azzes as it really means nothing. Ya a metis citizen "with" a harvesters card can hunt migratory game birds in BC ..... yay LOL
My rights are constitutionally protected .... yet I need a harvesters card? how stupid is that?
Yes, I am Metis, however it's far easier for me to just do my harvesting under the provisions of the BC wildlife act and I have zero issue with buying licenses and tags if that money actually supports habitat and hunters rights.
My "right to hunt and fish and harvest off the land" will not be infringed simply because the Metis Nation has zero balls or will to force the BC government and all the first nations bands to recognize those rights. There are 2 First Nations bands that have allowed me to register with the band after a vote in council. This gives me rights to harvest off the land within thier territories but there are conditions, it is certainly no free for all like many non natives perceive things to be.

By "rights" I do not believe this is a right to harvest at wanton and I believe there needs to be mechanisms in place to stop the poachers of all walks of life. Being a responsible harvester is something that needs to be forced on us all, regardless of what nation your family hails from.

People making money exploiting natural resources that belong to first nations. I guess the forestry industry can fold up shop and piss off too? Or maybe it has more to do with getting a cut of the profits, as usual.

More like belong to all Canadian citizens.... regardless of race/color/who was here first.

Oh I see a thread that had been cleant and a SJW that has been pinked.

Kinda disapointed that we can't have an opinion without be sanitized but I'm glad some "positive discrimination" looser has been kicked out

Call me racist, but would it not be better if we all followed the same law? If the natives followed the laws of conservation the same as the rest of us “racist”, “bigoted”, white,... Canadians???

the Indians do overfish the salmon and sell them by the side of the road as well
They are no doubt selling moose meat

When wards of the state start being forced to follow the same laws/regulations as Taxpayers I'll give a damn. We either have laws/regulations or we don't. Pick one. I'm fine either way.

industry, including BC's forest industry has been raping this land with zero concern for decades. I live in a mill town, 80% of my aquaintances are mill workers and machine operators, my closest friend's son is a senior forestry manager.... a big shot as they like to say. His words to me about the common practices that have governed the forestry industry in BC is do what we need to do now.... let them worry about the damage in 50 years when we're all retired. If you believe the forestry/gas/mining game is any different than that you are seriously fooling yourself.
Resource harvesting in british columbia by corporations has done more damage to fish and wildlife stocks and habitat than any sector of the sporting or aboriginal harvesting groups combined. Again, if you believe in a different reality...... well.... I can't help you.

on the guide outfitter comment. I realize many folks work in that industry. I myself have dabbled in sports fishing guiding and had a great time on the rivers chasing steelhead and salmon and pulling fish outta the salt off the west coast. So I don't have a full on hate for it all but I do have a very keen sense of the industry and know that most of it is not even owned by Canadians, let alone British Columbians.
I have nothing but good will and support for guide businesses that are owned and operated by Canadian citizens, who's employees are Canadian citizens and the money generated from said businesses is staying in this country. The rest..... can piss off

I was just down in hope for 4 days trying to find these natives selling fish you speak of....... LOL
I failed and ended up get out my rod and reel and catching a pile of sockeye for myself and all it cost me was a salmon tag, 20 bucks in gear and a tank of fuel in the ol dodge cummins. :D
why would anyone in thier right mind buy salmon right now when the fraser river is literally overflowing with them.

I got an idea, let's all forget the dumb crap posted in this thread and that blow hard chief alfonse and his silly repetitious calls to be king of his territory and get out there and get some nature into ya.
