Definition of a Fudd gun??

Ok, I'll bite.
The most popular gun among Fudds seems to be some sporterized version of an SMLE in .303 British. If they like to hunt other things, then a Cooey single shot 22 or combination 22/410. If other birds besides grouse are on the list then a break action 12 gauge possibly sold by Sears & Roebuck.
These are also known as "The farmer three" as gun collections go.
Are you asking to fit in, as it were? Undercover Fudd so to speak?

Fudd rifle....760 Remington 30-06 with see through scope mount.

Have some respect for the OP :)

It should have a 4x non-variable scope, leather strap made from an old belt, and notches carved for each deer shot. Maybe even has someone's SIN number pencil engraved somewhere.

To me, and other old fuds, I think a fud gun a fine wood stocked traditional rifle. I own “black guns, auto loaders, synsthetic stocks and a dozen hand guns. A fud is not a derogatory name, just showing his preference. The guys that say you can’t use that gun, ##### about targets are not fuds but dink$!

I had a Rem 760 deluxe carbine in 30-06 with a Bushnell 1.5-4.5 Scope Chief on 'er in a set of Weaver low rings & bases. It was Fuddtastic looking from the Monte Carlo butt to the slash cut (Weatherby style) fore end an the basket weave checkering was cool. Shot well to boot.:)

I never considered the beasty a Fudd gun at the time & still don't really. The Rem 742's seemed more of a Fudd machine to me mainly from the automatic action
and folks of limited skill using 'em on critters like they were in a war movie. Lot's of bangin' & missed shots along with wounded game.

Yup, I see the 760 and 740/742 at the top of the list for Fudd guns. Anything that was cheap to buy and cheap to feed factory ammo from the local hardware store.

The list ....

- Remington 760
- Remington 740, 742
- Winchester M94
- Marlin 336
- Lee Enfield
- Early 700s and 70s

“Fudd” applied only to those over 40 is ageism. Younger people with similar taste buy Savage Axis/Mossberg/Marlins with package scopes chambered in 308.
