The Stag 10s NR stripped receiver set thread

It sounds like you were told they would fit based on the predication that they are meant to function with a rifle length gas tube under them, when used on an AR15. What most people may not realize is that while plenty of the AR10 barrels on the market use a standard rifle length gas tube, the gas port distance is different than the standard distance on an AR15 with a rifle length gas system.

The difference in distance is to account for the fact the barrel extension on an AR10 is longer than that of an AR15, subsequently, the gas port distance on the AR10 is shorter... to account for the increased length of the AR10 barrel extension.

So if I drill a port 6mm further the gas tube will be too short then. Man that sucks gotta figure out then.

if it were me..... i would not be redrilling a gas port.

simple solution?
if yer handy.... carefully measure the distance you need to set the handguard back to a working length on the barrel you have.
Then precisely layout 2 cut lines in a good spot on the forward end of the handguard , the distance you need to set it back. Carefully cut inside those two lines.
I would then bond the handguard back together by very carefully drilling into the faces of the cut off areas in 3 locations to add stainless .035 wire pins and then bond the union with an epoxy product
be good as new and the right length.

Im happy i got every thing and somewhat put together and it looks good but my handguard is something like 6mil too long :( so im going to cut the HG and hold it together with wire and electric tape and go with a falloutish look or plug and drill the gas port.

Well that sucks! I had planned to do basically the same thing with the parts I had on hand but didn’t figure on the difference of the AR10 barrel extension. I’m still waiting on a barrel. Looks good though

We were going to do what 45 said but figured it wouldn't look "right" with it being a sloped HG so we went the hard way with a lathe taking a little from the barrel nut and both ends of the HG.

It will be a wait but I'll post what happens.

Looks like IRG has finally started shipping... so hopefully I get mine soon. Caved and decided its just not worth it anymore to pursue them to own up to their promise of combining my shipping on my 2 orders (despite the promise of it being made in their very forum).

All parts are at the ready for when it arrives, but I wont be using IRG again anytime soon based on how they handled the whole Stag situation altogether.

Went with their HB .308 completion kit, but will be swapping out the butt stock for a UBR. Also have a triggertech to drop into it as well, and that should be fine and dandy enough for me.

Topping it with a NF NXS 3.5-15x56

Just snagged a Gen 1 Remington R-25 in 308 for a donor rifle. I'll probably sell the upper and then upgrade the other parts as I go. I'll shoot it with the 20" rem barrel first to see what kind of accuracy I can get.

Do you know if the barrel comes pre-dimpled for the gas block?

And.. I received my barrel, gas block and gas tube today. However it's the wrong barrel. I ordered a nitride SS 308 20" Criterion with 1:11.25 twist. I received the barrel but it's not the nitride version which did cost more and is black. This one is silver. So I guess I'll be waiting a while longer. :(

From the armoury? I got my shipment today finally

Yup.

I did check the handguard length with the slr gas block and this barrel. Looks exactly the way I hoped. The block is exposed but the gas tube is covered/protected. So as soon as I get the nitride version it should work decently.

This is exactly why Armalite went with a longer gas tube, so that standard handguards could be used.

You want a barrel set up for the longer Armalite gas tube. You may have to swap the bolt if the barrel is meant for an Armalite vs the DPMS system.

Barrel: BSF 20" Stainless/carbon fiber 6.5 creedmoor
Hand guard: Midwest industries 15"
Charging handle: Radian Raptor
Gas block: Superlative adjustable
Brake: VG6 Epsilon 6.5
Buffer tube: carbine length
Butt stock: houge (had it laying around)
Buffer: stag 10
Bolt: Brownells titanium
Bolt catch: Geissele Maratime (not yet installed)
Optic: undecided
Trigger: will change after I try out the one that's there

Loved the overall finish of the receiver. Trigger is garbage to what I'm used to. Bolt catch ineffective with 5/25pmag in photo.
Tried to make a reasonably light weight rifle from what was "readily available"
Weighs in at 7.4 lbs with no mag on my bathroom scale. Not a feather but feels like nothing compared to my m305s... Especially compared to the Sage.
