Jed,
Are you able to describe the mods needed to make the Barrett’s 92 mags function in the NP28?
Many thanks
sure. I read somewhere that it was possible, so figgered I'd give it a try(also read that Bersa Thunder mags will work, but they are not exactly common either)
I have a Beretta CX4, so I tried one of my mags for fitment, it fits in but will not lock in & the baseplate angle is a bit off.
step 1. ordered a Beretta 92 mag from Corwin Arms
step 2. lay the mags side by side and compare, take some measurements & scribe some lines.
first off, the locking notch for the 92 mag is too low on the mag(which is actually good because it it is not in the way. more on this later)
second the front of the 92 mag in front of and below the feed lips is too high, so with the mag fully inserted it will engage the slide stop, but not fully. now disassemble the 92 mag.
step 3. with my trusty 1980's vintage Black & Decker Dremel like tool, cutoff wheel installed, I cut a properly located locking notch
step 4. using same tool cut down the top front of the 92 mag to sorta match the Norinco profile(there is not enough material on the 92 mag to match the profile exactly due to the existing cutout)
step 5. change cutoff wheel for grind stone and smooth it all out
step 6. reassemble magazine, load up some dummy rounds and test
mine worked out fine, the beretta follower is cut out/molded different than the Norinco so it will not activate the slide lock. the modified 92 mag will still work in the CX4, BUT the new locking notch will try and lock the magazine before it is fully inserted, so you need to push the mag release to fully insert(that is a pain in the carcass)
I will try and post some pics later today
