PSA re: bolt failures in recent import M-14 pattern rifles

That bolt is forged and machined. No sweat.

Fwiw, wolverine can also get LRB bolts, but close to $400 for one of those.

Or you can buy a better forged norinco bolt on the EE.
 
I've owned a Norc M14 since 2011 , replaced the frt & rr. sights with the GI non wandering, hold zero all day type , other than that thankfully NO problems, & was surprised actually at how good its been running. Had considered, but resisted buying one of these for years , especially since my TRW was made a safe queen, & locked away, by the Feds. Finally gave in when finally some positive info came out. Now this eye opener!----(pls excuse the Pun)

Threads like these are super important, (special thanks to M14 medic, & Claven2 for your expertise ) if only to protect, as in this case M14 owners who unwittingly bought these face grenades, & other gun owners from the pure greed of an importer who does not care if the hundreds of guns they are hawking to dealers are safe for use, & choose to ignore any complaints when issues come to light .
Does someone have to lose an eye, or require surgery to remove a bolt lug implant from a forehead before they recall these so called guns? ----- Despicable !! Maybe Ed Burlew could fit his into his busy schedule ,----Can anyone say Class Action!
 
I do find it interesting that on guns issued to chinese agencies they have not gone to mim bolts, if they think it's so great.

My t81 has some non-critical mim parts like sight knobs, but these were made alongside a PLA order and the bolts are forged and machined. Go figure.

Export stuff, it seems like they don't give 2 whifs.
 
Sorry to necro the thread if it's dead I'm looking to see a picture of the underside of the boat that have the. Because I can't see in the pictures above I have a 7. 62 by 39 mm and a m305 22in I want to make sure that there not got those bolts
 
so sad to see this happen to such a fantastic rifle.
This rifle made a lot of businesses a pile of cash off the backs of Canadian shooters and now to keep feeding that demand they roll out bunk unsafe Sh*t rifles to make even more money off the backs of Canadian shooters.

You would think the demand for this rifle and all the money they generated would mean manufacturers could make a better rifle the next time around but they didn't ..... make it as cheap as possible, sell it for maximum margins and who cares if they release an unsafe product.
in my opinion, all this cast junk should be sent back to the importers before someone does get seriously injured.

I'm bringing this thread back because I want to say thanks to those who started it. I had no idea this was an issue with these rifles. I checked my own M305 and dangit if it doesn't have an MIM bolt in it! I bought it bagged in a box, and the packing slip said it left the factory in 2015. I've only put about forty rounds of 7.62 through it, but I think I'll quit for now while I'm ahead.
I was at my local armory yesterday where I bought the rifle and the staff I spoke with had never heard of this issue, though I wasn't surprised. It's a damn shame that there should be such uncertainty with such a safety-critical part of the action!

I'm in the market for a new bolt now I guess.

There is a vendor named after a famous meso-american culture that starts with an A, ends with a C, and there are the letters Z, T, E in there somewhere as well. They import LRB and Fulton Armory Gen2 bolts. I've not recently used a Fulton bolt, btu the lasto ne I used was great. I lapped in an ew LRB bolt yesterday and it was every bit as good as USGI NOS. Fair prices.

Or buy a GI bolt on the EE. Also good.

I will warn you though, there is no guarantee the new bolt will close on your existing action with a GO gauge, or that it won;t close on a NOGO. Usually I also replace the barrel with a short chambered, match quality barrel and headspace everything together. YMMV.
 
I have been away from the M1A/M14 game for awhile,but I was pretty active here Here years ago,mostly to the wealth of knowledge on this site about the Chinese made M14 rifles. Some of the old timers will remember me. Most of the information on the Chinese guns in the states were offering a upgrade service to basically keep the receiver and junk everything else. There were some truths to some of this, the rear site parts were pretty soft as were the Chu stocks. Most of my 4 China rifles are stock.
It deeply saddens me to hear about mim made bolts that are shearing bolt lugs.
I hope everyone stays safe and inspects their bolts for defects !

Your MIM bolt will be black in color and very shiny
From a distance you may think the bolt is actually made of glass
When you flip the bolt over and look at its lower surface, you'll see what looks like little circles on the metal
I have to get cracking on sourcing a new bolt for my shorty M305 as well
Could try firing the thing, however I value the right side of my face and eyesight
 
I have a small handful of Chinese parts, not sure if I have anything anyone needs but I will dig them out if someone needs something.
Last I recall Canada imported a bunch of IDF M14 parts kits from Israel. What happened to the M14 clones that we're going to be made in Italy ?Vaporware?
