Not drinking when he told me what had happened but he may have been at the time of the occurrence, no idea, there were at least 4 witnesses. He was a former cop that had some idea where he stood legally, and he was notorious for a right cross that came out of nowhere and would lights out you pronto.
And the CO displayed excellent judgement in not forcing it any further than he did.
You mention shooting people and the pistol quite prominently.
Not how their job works I don't think.
Assault someone who is doing their job while armed, and it won't go the way you think it will. Your scenario is the equivalent of grabbing a cop and ripping buttons off his shirt to dispute a parking ticket after you parked in a handicap spot without your placard showing. Good luck on finding a Peace Officer who "displays excellent judgement in not forcing it any further".
Sorry, but your buddies story on how that went down smells strongly of bull####, plain and simple.
There are a lot of "tough guys" out there, and they want you to know it so bad that they will tell you how tough they are, you just have to sit there long enough to listen..... And someone who was a former cop, certainly knows better than to sucker punch people. Folks tend to file charges for stuff like that. Get known for doing it, and you are real likely to end up spending time someplace where your meals are brought in on a tray.
Seriously tough individuals that know where they stand legally, and what they can do, generally aren't the guys that like to brag about it.
The major aspect that folks here seem to forget, is that if you show an appropriate level of reaction to any given situation, then cops and CO's will generally do the same.
