Kel-tec RBD range report

I did read that the gas setting needs to be adjusted depending on mag. It was recommended to settle on 1 type of mag to set and forget the gas setting. This was in an article I read and not first hand info so take it for what it is.

Glad to hear there is hope for all mags

Was out with the kids and my RDB this morning.
All steel mags did not work on any gas setting.
All plastic mags run 100% on lowest gas setting.

Son bought a RDB. It shows hope for steel mags.

I am okay with just plastic mags working.
Its a truck/farm toy. Not going to use for 3 gun or anything.

Just bumping this thread up as I finally got my rdb to the range.

Did an initial field strip at home and blue loctited almost everything just to avoid potential issues that others have experienced.

I ran some 55 grain campro fmj over h335, my ar15 load, and used a fixed 10x bushnell in a vortex cantilever mount.

Gas setting out of the box was perfect. Recoil impulse was a bit strange at first but got used to it quickly. Brass came out in a neat little pile looking unscathed. Dialed Down the gas setting 1 notch and tested function again with no stoppages.

Ran 150 rounds through her in gen3 pmags, hera mags, mft pistol mags, the included 10 round mag, and the metal cpd 10 round pistol mags. All mags fed flawlessly and the bolt locked back after the last round on all of them.

Accuracy was acceptable at 50 yards with no load development for the gun and also being my first time with a bullpup. I wanted to put my left hand under the rear of the gun to support it but the "D" in RDB made that impossible. The trigger is amazing.

On a side note, i had my wk180 there with me and it had several stoppages to the point i gave up on it, where the rdb ate all the ammo i made.

I would highly recommend the rdb to someone on the fence

I am surprised the WK had issues. Contact Kodiak Defense about it so it gets rectified.

My WK is working flawlessly, but I do have a hankering to trade it for an RDB to try that one out as well. I do love me a bullpup.

I need to do a bit more digging into my reloads. I'm thinking its a sizing issue at the case head. Going to take some measurements and adjust if needed. I know the chamber is tight on the 180. Just interesting the RDB ate all the ammo that the 180 didn't

I have watched your posts about trading for the RDB. I am new to bullpups completely but I'm in love.

Hey Laker415, glad to hear everything is working out for you. You were pretty excited to get yours!

No change on my side, still functioning well. No fuss, no drama, just works. I'm thinking about switching over to a 3-9 optic for Coyotes this winter.

Yeah I wanted to get one of these since the pre-order came out so long ago. Glad to hear yours is working well for you. I'm ditching the 10x bushnell as its just a spare sitting in a mount. Thinking a 1-6 or 1-8 optic for mine. Not going to hunt with mine, just a fun toy at this point.

I have a couple questions for RDB owners after shooting my friend's one yesterday.

1. We found the mag release hard to depress sometimes. We were using CPD metal 10 round mags. Sometimes the mag release just doesn't want to be pushed in. Any of you experienced this issue before?
2. How do you check the chamber in the RDB to verify it's unloaded. It seems the chamber area is completely enclosed by the cheek piece? Some range/matches that requires mandatory chamber flag, how would that work with the RDB?

Now my other observation with the rifle:
- Trigger is very good for a bullpup.
- Rifle handles very well because it's a bullpup, and it's not very heavy.
- Recoil is mild, no gas in the face.
- If you have a wide scope ring mount, it's easy to pinch your thumb against it when using the charging handle.
- 45 degree safety with extended lever is the best I've seen so far.
- Double feed is hard to clear. Always rack the charging handle multiple times after removing the mag to ensure all cartridges are removed. At one point my friend removed the mag, racked the charging handle to eject a round and put gun down. I picked up the gun and racked it again, and another round fell out to our surprise.

Hey Diegocn, I'll try to answer.

1. I don't have this issue, the release is easy to depress with the back of my hand and the mag drops freely loose. Only difference is that I have only run polymer mags in mine (P Mag, IWI).

2. Yup this gun is a range officers worst nightmare. lol If I'm just on my own and the rifle is not hot, I will just reach in and feel with my finger. If I'm at a range, I lock back the action, flip the rifle upside down and visually inspect it. I will then leave the rifle propped upside down resting against an ammo can.

I'm lucky that I've never had a feeding issue. Some people report issues with any type of metal magazine in these guns, that may be part of the issue.

I have no problems releasing any style of mag whether it metal or polymer.

As far as chamber checking it seems you gotta flip it upside down and really have a look and feel.

I too have been lucky with reliable feeding from all types of mags

Has anyone tried ATRS pistol mags in these rifles, and are AR height mounts required for optics??

I haven't tried ATRS mags in mine as I have none, but I have tried (with 100% reliability) Gen3 PMags, Hera Mags, CPD metal 10 round pistol mags, MFT 10 round pistol mags, and the 10 rounder that came with the gun (thermold?).

I ran a bushnell 10X in a vortex mount and my cheek weld was fine. It looked a little silly as the pic rail is short and then it just drops off to the hand guard/barrel, so you may be able to get away with a lower style ring instead of a 1 piece mount.

I find it interesting that, despite people calling them crap, I haven't heard of any owners having serious issues with these rifles. "Kel Tec is crap" might be true, but they certainly aren't BCL, or Mac Def it seems.

I have a x95. My friend bought a RDB. He came home to show it to me the other day and I was REALLY impressed at the overall package for the price. I find it is better balanced than my x95. Also, it seems to be made lower than the x95, which puts my cheek weld right at the right place naturally for a wider range of optics.

It’s hard to describe, but my x95 gets top heavy and unconfortable with anything else than a red dot. The Kel-Tec is still very well balanced and confortable with bigger optics like fixed or variable power scope!

I have nothing bad to say about it honestly and I’m even considering buying one.
