Remington 870 wingmaster 28 ga

Factory tubes would’ve been the icing on the cake with those Browning repops. Someday another one will reside in my safe again.

I was scared when I stashed them they would go the same way as the ducks unlimited guns I saved like a fool in the late 70's and 80's and it wasn't until I joined here did I see I made a big mistake on DU guns
I sold them off eventually 11 of the 13 I had and of course the one I kick my ass now selling was the superx1 DU which is the only one out of 11 I can say I made some money on

These now don't seem to be going that way since I did pick up another one of theses in 28ga used in a deal and it sold on the EE in 4 minutes with a ton of interest for a fair price so maybe some day the NIB ones will prove to be worth saving
I wish I had of known what the original winchester model 12's in 28ga would be worth since I passed like an idiot on two about 20 years ago for like 1500 each. I have not seen one for sale since I don't think
I know I know slap me and real hard :(
take care

Found it!! Apparently it sold at auction for $5100 US!!! I guess that answers that question.

That is good money for a fake
That is a simmons conversion is it not. If I was buying one today they would have to let me take it apart or no sale
They say there are more fakes now that originals were ever made

Some good reading on them here in this post not my words

Standard barrel lenghts for the 28ga, were 26 or 28 inches, the fact that this one measures 26 & 1/4 would be in the tolerance range for the barrel. Based on your description of the vent rib posts, it sounds like the STANDARD Vent Rib by Simmons. If you look on the side of the rib just above where you see Winchester Model 12 on the barrel you should see Simmons Gun Specialities on the side of the rib. Note; Simmons reblues all Md 12s after the rib is brazed on, and the receiver is machined for the rib ramp. Skeet guns came with checkered stocks, but without seeing the checkering pattern, I couldn't tell you if they are factory, duplicates or true aftermarket. Engine turned bolt and carriers is common on factory Skeet guns, but not often found on plain barrel guns.THIS IS IMPORTANT the 28ga. was built on the 20ga. frame just like the 16 ga. was. Remove the butt stock and look at the back of the receiver were the stock goes, just above the receiver shank, (that's where the stock bolt screws into the receiver) you should see a 28 stamped into the metal, just above the groove where the stock lip fits. Simmons use to convert 16ga and 20ga guns into 28ga. guns, this included rerolling the barrel and re roll die stamping of all the Winchester info on the barrel.
I would be very careful here, If the serial number of the gun falls below serial number 720137 (1937 start date) or above serial number 1770398 (the last year the 28ga was made in production) BE leary!!!
Simmons conversions range between $1200-$2000. A true 28ga. with a Simmons rib, $1500-$3000.
Regards Dave
A couple of other places to look is the magazine band should have a small 28 stamped on it, it will be on the back side left or the front side right. The action slide rod (the rod that goes into the receiver) should also have a 28 on the inside. you may have to remove the barrel assy. from the receiver to see it.

Be very careful when buying a Winchester Model 12 in 28 gauge. There are probably more fakes out there now, than original guns. The 16 and 20 gauge guns were made on the same frame as the 28 gauge and it is fairly easy to turn a $300 to $500 gun into a high priced 28 gauge gun.

Cool. I thought so. There was very few of them in this province . Phew a 370 in 28ga not one I have in my herd. Honestly don't even remember seeing one
Broke my heart but I had to sell the o/u ruger 28ga last spring :( man that was a sweet gun and mint
Medical bills that had to be paid and I knew the gun would sell very quick to pay my bill which it did
Too bad we didnot buy more of them back when they were made
Cheers

Sorry to hear you had to part with the 28 gauge Ruger Red Label.Bought it new and used it very little. You were the second owner of that gun.

Yes you are right there are a number of guns I wish I would have bought when they were in production.Hope your health is improving.

I found a barely used, beautiful Remington 1100 Sporting 28 for a good price and had to take it home.
My wife thinks it is so pretty that she sold the new 870 Express 28 she had bought two weeks earlier without ever having fired it!
We have been having a "blast" (as she puts it) taking ruffies, spruce hens, sharptails and blue grouse with it over the past three seasons. Loving that 28! Had a 410 Cooey single shotas a kid for hunting snowshoe hares and ruffies on the farm. Never had as much fun with it as we are having with this Remington!
Looking at picking up another, or a Benelli Ultralight, so that we can each have one!

I can understand. The wood on those is normally a real good grade and yes for lack of a better word pretty :)
Cheers

I Should of said the rib on mine wasn’t the reason I sold it but when I was asked to sell it was the only reason I let it go. I kinda regret selling it and would probably buy another if I had the chance.
