I'm looking for some advice for mild .455 Webley MkII loads. These loads will be used in WW1 vintage Spanish .455 breaktop revolvers so I want something mild (as this action isn't the strongest) but still fairly accurate at 25 yards.

I was thinking maybe something like 2.7 - 3gr of unique behind a 255gr .454" cast lead bullet (hornady # 12458). Does this sound about right?

Does anyone have any mild pet loads they can share?

Also any advice on .455 reloading books/published recipes? This cartridge isn't even listed in my Hornady and Lee books. :(

many thanks :)

With a starting load listed as 3.9 grs of Unique for a 260 gr cast, your 2.7-3.0 grs seems dubious. Go with the starting load. It's mild - you'll practically be able to outrun the bullet (will be going in the 600 fps range).

Hi

I load a mild load using Hornady MkVI brass, 220 gr cast bullet and 5.5 - 5.6 gr of Trail Boss. Eliminates chance of double loads or need to use filler over the powder to eliminate postional changes.

Regards

Where did you get that load? It's anything but mild. Trail Boss has a burn rate between Bullseye and Clays, and that's 30-40% over their published max loads.

I have loaded 5.3 Grs of Trail boss in a Antique 455/476 caliber Webley BUT that was a 45 Scofeild Starline solid head case! and a 250 gr Keiths .454 dia lead bullet.
It chronographed at 630 FPS
I felt it was safe!
but 5.6 grs in a Webley case is a tad hot as the case is shorter mind you your 220 gr Bullet is lighter.

Good to hear your still alive and typeing still got one finger anyway! :p

I love TB powder i have loaded some 45 colt loads with 6 grs and they were doing 700 + FPS and very nice to shoot!
