Stag 10 rebarrel to 22-250

I would go with a .243
So would I, but if his hunting regs are anything like our Sh!tty regs , then it’s a problem.
We’re limited to .22 Cal for coyote, which allows me to carry my .223 or 22-250 in the bush for 10 months of the year.

.243 is limited to big game regs which are a no go , unless you have a big game licence.
Then it’s only good for short periods of time and only in the area you have a tag for.

Our regs have actually relaxed as of this spring. Here we can now hunt big game with a .223 and above. There is no cal. restrictions on coyote here in Sask.

Cheers!!

In that case, if it were me, I’d go .243.
Flat shooting, fast and quite capable of taking anything from a Coyote to a moose.
Only thing is it gotta be in the AR10 family, I think?
Which generally,is a bit heavier than the AR15 family.

If I were looking at the AR15 sporting/hunting , I’d choose either the .224 Valkyrie or the 6.5 Grendel.

But ,for me , the Wild life regs cancels that out.

8541 tactical touched on this in one of his recent mail call mondays. He seemed to believe throat erosion, barrel heating and gas system regulating/tuning are some of the reasons few semis if any are offered in .22-250.

too much taper in the 22-250 case to stack properly in 308 mags. If all you want is 3rds, maybe 4rds, it might work. Thus that really funky Pat pending mag... internally, it will be curved like an AK mag to aco#### for the case taper.

If you want a fast 22cal, get a 22 Creedmoor. I just started playing with one in a bolt rifle and it shoots very well. Feeding is no problem, like all of the Creedmoor family

For a 6mm, I would still go 6mm Creedmoor vs the 243. housing the Creedmoor case in "shorter" OAL mags is just so much easier. No real difference in performance.

And Yes, all of these chambers would be possible in AR10 barrels... pm or email

22 Creedmoor is definitely the sensible solution. The case was designed to feed well in an AR10 and give room for long bullets with the mag length restriction. But my not-so-sensible side wants a 22-243 Middlestead!

super sharp shouldered case.... AR lower feed ramp.... AR barrel extension. May not run reliably and may not run reliably for long given the enormous port pressure this case will generate.

It is still an AR and operating parameters aren't very flexible.

No, you don't need a new bolt with any of the 308 case family cartridge and including wildcat.

I used to wonder if you could make/buy a chamber insert for my ranger 30-06 that would let you shoot .308, but that was back when I only owned two or three rifles.

Now that they have inserts and things like the X-Caliber I wonder if it exists now...

Update: Looks like they always existed, I just didn't have the internet 30 years ago. ;) Also seems that some 30-06 didn't even need an insert but I'm not sure I want to try it in the ranger these days.

""7.62 NATO ammo will also chamber and fire without mishap in the 1903 Springfield, US M1917 Enfield, and other bolt rifles having a controlled feed in which the rim is directed under the extractor as the cartridge is stripped from the magazine.""
