M91/30 PU Sniper Rifle Bolt help

there are no "import/export issues" buying bolts from the US...??? I do it all the time - bolt action bolts are not controlled items.

Ok..I was told something different earlier. In any case, where can I find a place that sells Striaght Bent bolt bodies? I know that I can buy some that are angled back, but those are not the ones I'm wanting.

Jim (the botlman) does. He welds a new handle onto your already matching original bolt (so no renumbering) and adds a discrete monogram to the underside of the handle lug where it won't be seen without removing the bolt body from the rifle to prevent fakery.

Does he put some mark to show that it's not original? This type of thing could muddy the waters for collectors.

I think it would be some feat to produce a fake. Most Mosin-Nagants have been renumbered so if you stamp the new number, it doesn't make sense. If you stamp the old one, it doesn't make sense either.

You could ask him to stamp something for you if you were really concerned.

Rebuilt rifles may have renumbered parts. A premium collectible sniper set most likely will not be m/m or renumbered. Hence the importance of some distinguishing mark. MN snipers, like a number of others, have been recently assembled from parts, and the premium paid for sniper rifles is an incentive for creativity.

I think anyone that collects should be concerned with people who build fakes or repros and then pass them off as legit. I own real Mosin snipers and a couple of fake Mosin snipers and without the fakes being marked as such, you cannot tell the difference.

'cuz the locking lugs are ON the bolthead itself, re-using the one that came with the gun should maintain the headspace. Keep us updated! I want to see the process before I begin to re-sniperize mine!

I will definitly keep everyone informed as the process goes on. As of right now:

1. Have bought the repro PU scope and mount today from General Zhukov's Accumounts in MI ( http://w w w.accumounts.com ) for $209, all in. I was trying to buy one on EBay right from the manufactures in the Ukrane, but I got well overbid. Too damn high for me. Went from $76 - $200 + shipping US. This was the next cheapest and luckily closest I could find. Pics show all the Russian markings. Will keep informed as to quality when I get it.

2. Ordered the Mosin Nagant M91/30 from P&S Militia. I added it to my total order so I don't plan on recieving it until Sept at the earliest. $200 + taxes and shipping.

3. Will buy the bolt handle from the Boltman. He is supplying the bolt in this case but can also alter your own ( http : / / w w w . mosinnagant.net/Boltman/Boltman.html ). $58 total, 6 weeks for creating and delivery. I won't be getting this done till Sept/Oct due to the fact that I'm gone for over 2 months for work starting at that time.

4. Ellwood Epps will be called upon to do all the necessary work. They're the closest qualified and experienced place that I know of. If anyone can suggest someone closer to NS than Ont that has experience and can do a quality job, please do.

Forget Epps. Contact Jason at Gunco in Ottawa. He has done these before many times (even for me ;) ) and has all the taps, tooling and jigs already made and ready to go.

613-224-6266. Tell him Ron put you on to him.

Anyone know much about the different repro mounts? I've noticed the ones from the Ukraine(on Ebay) seem machined, and still bear machining marks and have a good looking blue, while the ones from accumounts have more of a cast look to them. I would think the rougher looking machined ones would be more original in appearance, but that's purely speculation. What's the preferred mount among those who've done this already?
