Heard on the radio yesterday SK Will be changing the current trespass law to require everyone to ask permission before accessing private property for any reason.
Don't remember the percentage but said large majority of respondent landowners wanted this change on the questionaire.
Plan is change will be in place before year end.

Heard it on 980.

So does this mean that people is Saskatchewan can protect themselves and their property from trespassers who dont ask permission? Or is this just liberal window dressing solutions in response to people feeling unsafe miles from police response.

It may help a little with the low lifers that "get lost" and wander onto your property looking for "Steve".

That is a technique they use here while they are casing your joint, this now allows prosecution in areas that they couldn't before.

I'm all for this due to the high crime rate and slob hunters.

It is not passed yet.

As a hunter this is both good and bad. On the plus side, it'll cut down on the number of hunters that just drive around every slough, abandoned yard and piece of brush hoping to find their deer, it'll also stop the weekend warriors who blast up the first deer they see, regardless of where it is. It will definitely make pre-season scouting more important.

On the bad side, nowadays with all the big farms and corporations who own land, it can be tough to find a contact to actually ask for permission. It'll also ruin your hopes when you're driving down the road and see a B&C deer in a random stubble field and you can't shoot it because you don't have permission.

Personally I think the whole trespass law should have been changed to "Hunt on foot only". or something along the lines of "anything fenced requires permission".

No liberals elected in Saskatchewan provincially.

Who in their right mind believes that someone who is simply trespassing deserves a bullet? Don't get me wrong, I hate thieves and trespassers but unless your life or other's is in danger, you should not use deadly force.

Let me guess...you don't own land suitable for hinting? Why should I have to go through the expense and work to fence my property to keep people out? If something isn't yours, don't touch it! That goes for anything. If it is not yours, you have no business to touch it with out permission of the owner. I was taught this when I was a toddler.

I don't think this will change that at all and that farmers will have more people creeping around their yard in the fall. Change looking for Steve for looking for the land owner of a quarter in the area. I expect farmers in busy areas to be swamped with calls and people looking for permission driving into the yard

Feel free to tell that to all of the farmers that seed into the road allowance. Nobody seems to go through the expense to get it surveyed to see whats there's and then they get pissy when utilities get put just outside of the property line and it ends up in the way because they seed 8 ft into the ditch.

I've met plenty of land owners that have claimed undeveloped road allowances as their own - complete with no trespassing signs lol.

I think it's great news. I only hunt in 3 wmz's and in that it's only 4 or 5 RM's. I have current maps for all of the RM's near me and already always approach land owners &/or renters for permission every year. I talk to way more people without ever setting foot on their land, but it makes it easier for a different year to maintain those contacts and relationships. There are farmers that have told me I can hunt their land year after year for many years and I've yet to ever set foot on it. Once my tag is filled, it's filled. I don't need 20 hunting spots... but it's pretty handy to have 20 available in case #1,2, or 3 don't work out.

It will keep the lazy people out and only increase the odds for the real sportsmen willing to put a little effort into the sport.

Ive heard and read....not sure how much truth there is in this but RMs are wanting you to show some ID to see if you are from that RM or a city or town and have been nudging the farmers to deny any urban hunters entry on their land. The rural city divide is getting silly here in Sask after the Bushie case and farmers want payback.
