I just put the same Smith Enterprises brake on my 22" Norc. My question for you: how did you mount it given that you cut down your barrel? Did you have splines milled into the outside of the barrel and then used the standard castle nut to fasten? Or did you use another method? Please tell.

I want to put the brake on my shortie Norc, but don't know how to attach it given that it is now threaded and has no splines?

Oh, and Vengeance, I ordered mine direct from Smith by telephone and they mailed it direct. Wasn't even opened by customs - got lucky there as no 14% tax to pay. Ordering direct is better than through Brownell's b/c Smith only wants $100 US (Brownells wants $130), which also happens to be the maximum gun parts dollar value that can be ordered without any extra paperwork. :D

Yeah, Smith's ship to Canada now..For the 18.5'' installation of the CoastGuard brake is a mystery to me & the gunsmiths secret..I know I'll be using a new castle nut..All I care is it better be straight :)

I am putting a Smith's scope mount & a Leupold Mark 4 MRT 1.5-5 Illum glass on it, Skooch on CGN has a similar set-up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys! Airborne what range do you go to? We should hook up for a shoot some time.

I'm sure me & Jeff/1911 will meet up to compare our projects eventually.
I am a member at Genesee but seldom go, I'm a regular at Wildwood though. You?

Hi Guys,

Well I finally got my Vortex flash hider installed, supplied by Jeff at Valley Gunsmithing. He is great to deal with! :)

Here is how she looks...

Sweet rig Jeff & good job! Tell us how it shoots too.

mine is almost done, just having a castle nut shortage problem but it should be rectified in the next weeks.

I'll post pics also for comparison.

congrats.

The AK muzzle I believe, has a LH thread so the vortex flutes would probably veer to the left so it can "self tighten".

Where does Jeff at Valley Gun get his Vortex f/h from - SmithEnterprises?
I find the Vortex has sharp edges and a tendency to snag and catch on bush and branches.

I too would like to install the Smith Coast Guard unit on my 18.5" done by Jeff at VG. Just can't seem to get ahold of him to ask him if the Coast Guard with thread on.
