The left side of the actions look about the same thickness. Think of if one slices kielbasa diagonally, how it appears much thicker than a perpendicular cut... could just be the angle the ejection port is machined. I dunno, but I've got the bug to do a custom build off a 457 action! You guys think too much about the action design... didn't ya see what I did with a Cooey? My Remington 597? (a super thin walled receiver if there ever was one). A mm or two off the action thickness ain't gunna break the rifle... The real question is "have they stepped up their QC on their barrel making?" Everything else about the 457 looks good in my eyes, and I guarantee they'll shoot lights out with a custom barrel plus a couple mods (bedding, ignition fine tuning, etc...). The only way these rifles could fall short is if they keep chambering and crowning with tools duller than butter knives![]()
Maybe they are concerned about long term keep? It just seems like weight reduction to me, not always a bad thing also not always a good thing. We will find out!
I know I want one! They look superb!
Can anyone point out if that is just indents for a DIP rail or did they actually drill and tap their receiver ?
