New CZ 457 lineup! Pictures!

The left side of the actions look about the same thickness. Think of if one slices kielbasa diagonally, how it appears much thicker than a perpendicular cut... could just be the angle the ejection port is machined. I dunno, but I've got the bug to do a custom build off a 457 action! You guys think too much about the action design... didn't ya see what I did with a Cooey? My Remington 597? (a super thin walled receiver if there ever was one). A mm or two off the action thickness ain't gunna break the rifle... The real question is "have they stepped up their QC on their barrel making?" Everything else about the 457 looks good in my eyes, and I guarantee they'll shoot lights out with a custom barrel plus a couple mods (bedding, ignition fine tuning, etc...). The only way these rifles could fall short is if they keep chambering and crowning with tools duller than butter knives ;)

Maybe they are concerned about long term keep? It just seems like weight reduction to me, not always a bad thing also not always a good thing. We will find out!

I know I want one! They look superb!

Can anyone point out if that is just indents for a DIP rail or did they actually drill and tap their receiver ?

I think the key question (for me) is~how is the barrel attached? Is the 457 a step back towards better-built guns...or a continuation of the 455 direction CZ is (was?) going?

Threaded into the receiver=almost a 100% chance I'll be buying
Attached with grub screws (455-style)=almost 0% chance I'm buying..in spite of how much I like the look of them

They're the same as the 455

The slab-siding is definitely for weight reduction, I think we were speculating that the thickness of the receiver metal itself appeared thinner based on the ejection port profile. Machine something at an angle compared to 90 degrees, and the same thickness material will take on the appearance of being thicker when cut on an angle, when it is not in reality. I can't find any information about the indents, D&T would be nice.

They are officially going with the 455 barrel system. I don't see why that's a big deal, nobody's had a 455 barrel fall out of the receiver in the bush... They lock up solid and it's the barrel quality that determines the accuracy, not so much how it is attached. But, that's how it is with human psychology, one gets something in their mind and they cannot see it any other way, no matter how much information is presented that contradicts their point of view. It's called a confirmation bias, and it takes a strong hold on the human psyche. Threaded might make a hair of a difference in bench rest competition rifles, but for casual shooters with mostly sporter style rifles, I highly doubt anyone could tell an accuracy difference. Worry more about the internal quality of the barrel and the workmanship on chambering and crowning it, that's the heart of your accuracy.

Help...I've been brainwashed by BRNO and CZ452 rifles!! :) lol Nope, I'm an industrial designer by trade...work in custom manufacturing..and trouble-shoot inferior designs 5 days a week going on almost 30 years. I don't have the time, or inclination to buy something I see as being potentially problematic when a superior design is simply a matter of choice. I'm mostly discouraged at the way companies raise prices, but reduce quality...and spin these decisions as being benefits to the end users. I'm not condemning 455s, or these (beautiful looking) 457s...but will I choose one? Not likely, and I'm not busted-up about it either. For what CZ likely saves with the grub screw method, ask serious CZ shooters if they'd pay that difference to get their 457 barrel threaded into the receiver. I would.

Theory goes, the rifle should be more accurate with increased sight radius, I'm not sure if it's true in practice though.

455 being phased out? Didn't last long as the "New Improved Model" Love my 452's more now.

I don't know the answer to that, but like someone else suggested...my 452 gets an extra long hug now. lol If the 457 was a step back towards BRNO/452 in the way that matters most, I'd be setting $ aside to buy one, period. A different/improved receiver/bolt throw/stock is awfully nice, but not enough to push me towards one of these guns. Too bad.

Don’t think I should sell my 453 lux after all! One think I dislike is the slot cut out in the receiver for the bolt to slide through. It’s the same idea the cheaper savage and marlin bolt actions use. I prefer the 452 and 455 design there accept the short bolt throw that’s a plus on this new one

Not all but some models are being discontinued... h ttps://cz-usa.com/?s=455&submit.x=0&submit.y=0

So why haven't you just gone over to the Anschütz rifles?
