Is it worth it to get the restricted license to get handguns

Yes its worth it!!
Shooting pistols and revolvers is a lot of fun, I'm glad I have my rpal.
Book a date for your course, you would be kicking yourself later if you didn't.

Even if they don't ban, they may try and make it harder to get the restricted permit, so get it now, buy yourself a nice pistol of some sort and enjoy! Handguns are quite inexpensive now, you get a lot for your money! The ammo is fairly cheap right now too, go for it!

As mentioned by many already, if this is something that you want to do, then by all means go ahead and get the process going. There is strength in numbers, I hope, and worse case scenario, you run the chance of being grandfathered if you own handguns when the hammer falls...

The absolute worse case scenario of course is that the government initiate the confiscation of all handguns, but this is vary far from being a done deal. Also, you can then minimize any potential financial losses by buying only one (or a few...) handguns. One only lives once, so might as well have as few regrets as possible...

I'd say it's especially important given all the talk these days. I'm still kicking myself for being late to the party and thus not having a 12.6 today....

This. ^^^. And I have the bruises to prove it. :(.

Also, it has been suggested that the "ban" (if it does come) might instead be a grandfathering clause, as was done for guns that became 12.6 after C-68. Perhaps unlikely, but if so, you'd at least be covered.

Absolutely. I only wish I did it sooner.
When I tested for my PAL (FAC) way back in the day the guy asked if I wanted to test for restricted as well. I told him, “No, I’m good I’ll just do the NR”. He asked again and said “you really should, it’s not much more work and then you’ll have it”. Being stubborn I declined and have been kicking myself since. So many missed opportunities. Dumbass!!!
