Is it worth it to get the restricted license to get handguns

As caramel suggested earlier- this may be your last chance to do so.

No, I don't have any inside information, but with the gov't concerned about the rapid growth in RPALS and restricted firearms, the simplest and easiest way for them to curtail that would be to simply stop issuing RPALS.

Get it and buy something, it could be your last chance and there could be grandfathering.

No crystal ball here, but do it now just in case.

Not sure how many people realize, but handgun HUNTING is a very viable reason to get your rpal as well. Yes, Canada is currently lacking in that department but neighbouring states just south, as well as Alaska absolutely-do permit handgun hunting, and travelling with your guns is very legitimate for such things too. Farther from home, Africa, is also a very popular handgun hunters destination... travel again will be involved if one would be so inclined to travel for it, but it's very very doable as well. There are outfitters that even cater to handgun hunting!

So absolutely, go take the course; because even to hunters (if you happen to be one or there are hunters reading this that don't realize), it's valuable to have that RPAL. Opens doors that many take for granted to not even exist, yet they do.

Yes for sure, my only regret is that I did not do it sooner. My wife says she she wants get hers now and get a pistol, a part of the reason is that I explained it might get more difficult to do so in the future.

Do it!

Got my licence a year ago and went RPAL for the heck of it as it was not much more if I took both PAL and RPAL at once. No intention to buy a handgun.

Now, a year later, I am hopefully going to get membership in a club that has handguns to use if you have your RPAL. Really glad I did it. I also may pick one up if it looks like they will become prohib or whatever and am glad to have the licence in case I need to move quick.
