Canuck defender

I have put lots of buck and slug through my Canuck Regulator shooting as fast as I can pump. Has performed flawlessly to date. I have just set up another Regulator with an adjustable pistol grip stock and am awaiting a dovetail to pic rail adapter to mount a red dot. Then will be having fun with that one as well.

I have a major problem with my Defender. (User error: faulty snap caps)

Anyone know how to disassemble the mag tube?
I know the steps to strip it, remove barrel/bolt etc.

I just bought some Tipton brand snap caps (12ga) , the ones that are clear plastic with a brass "primer" and silver spring

These things are junk. Stay away at all costs. Previously I have bought all "A-Zoom" snap caps and they are perfect.

I have been wanting to practise speed loading the 12ga pump , and practice loading and cycling in the dark.

Epic failure..... now I have 2 plastic snap caps stuck in the mag tube, won't feed out, and looks like the plastic piece behind the mag tube nut isn't designed to be removed.

Someone help me plz plz.

:)

You'll have to dremel the inside of mag tube to get spring and follower out.. muzzle end of course

I have had the tube magazine release break on mine. The action would rack but not release a shell from the tube. I delt with the gunsmith at north silva directly. Great guy to deal with by the way. Other then that I have had no issues with it and it gets carried a lot on my outings.

The defender is just another rebranded turkish pump gun.
The tube unscrews from the from of the frame just like a mossberg. It may or mag not have loc tite on it

I have unscrewed the mag end cap on a Kodiak and see this:

I want to take the spring and follower out. But the tube has this on the end of it. Now what?

↑↑↑ Can you depress that disc and turn it vertical so it pops out? That's how the Hatsan's work.

Or spin it so that the indented ridge on the disc that you can see in your pic lines up with a corresponding cutout inside the mag tube.

I would like to thank those who have helped. Really appreciate the quick responses. I don't plan on shooting the Defender any time soon, but a broken gun is just a paperweight.

After reading all the replies, and RE READING your reply in-particular, I think this may be the best option.

Mine is new and tight action the further back the bolt goes.
The Swiss grease seems to smooth it out and don't baby it till it wears in
I got the wood stocked one, don't know if it makes any diff, but the action was pretty smooth from the get go. Obv not as smooth as a wingmaster 870, but lets say 3/4 as smooth as a reg 870, no noticeable tightness/binding.
I have only taken it out ounce tho, took her to a popular shooting spot 2 hours east of Toronto and put 150 rnds of winchester white box #7.5 "El cheapo" thru the Defender. I had 3 malfunctions total, but all of them user error, my errors.
Mostly , Im pretty sure all 3 malfunctions were caused by failing to push the last loaded round into the mag tube securely/properly.
I was rapid firing at pop bottles and bleach jugs that were littered all over this popular shooting spot. (the whole place has 20ft berm/hills, only shooting in safe direction)
I must have started loading too rapidly, and just not stuffing the last round loaded over the retaining clip properly.

I am really hoping this is not the case with mine. I have heard loading a live round may loosen it, or unstuck it. I am not going to chamber live ammunition's in my dwelling. I think its too irresponsible to load, if you aren't planning to shoot. **whoops wife , sorry my 12ga just randomly took out the ceiling fan.... MY BAD ** /sarcasm. (it probably wouldn't happen without the trigger being actuated, but I don't know the gun well enough to attempt. especially with jammed #### in it)

Thanks for this bit of info. I hope it doesn't come down to that, but I wasn't sure if it was threaded into the receiver or welded/fastened
I am hoping to use this as a last resort, if I can't either:
(A) flip the plastic "washer" under the threaded mag tube end cap (flip sideways as EL34/6L6 explains #31 this thread)
OR
follow the advice of Ganderite ( pop that bull#### ring tf outta there!)

I will pop the plastic "washer" disc outta there tomorrow (well its almost 4am) AHEM I mean today. I will be back with the verdict.

Thanks to all who helped. Much much appreciated.

I feel like a complete gun noob. I was just in another thread a month or 2 ago . confused about 3/8 dovetail scope mount on the defender. I had no idea on how to mount an optic. My shooting buddy said that the defender has a rail, and pointed to it, but I was too stupid to understand, cuz I only previously seen picatinny rails. I shot 12ga pumps and 22's , 270win when i was 13 years old. I really felt so stupid.
What this rant is about, is a solid thank you to those who provided substance in this thread.
I really can't blame people for not pointing me in the right direction as far as asking about the rail. If you're too stupid to figure it out with some "google fu" , you probably should be trusted to own one! XD

THX

:Dude don't kick your self up to much ,its just a learning curb ( you cannot know everything ) lots of knowledge here and most are way happy to help . Some of us have done way worse things ,(screw ups or just didn't realize ) be safe and enjoy this sport/hobby .

Awesome. I'm glad it worked out for you. My only concern is whether the extractor is reliable in the long term - there is no indication to suggest otherwise, but it would suck if it snapped off at an inopportune time. I wonder if it's forged or MIM.

Did you polish the action and extension because they needed it or to break them in quicker? Mine has a fair bit of drag that I assume will smooth out over time, but it would be nice to have it nice and slick before taking the first shot.

It came back polished. They did it at the warranty center.
Gun continues to run 100% they do smooth out over time with use

Odell stood behind it and fixed it in a timely manner. What more could you ask for. Even expensive guns need to get fixed sometimes.

A dt10. Two 686 guns and a ceaser gruini at my local club where sent in for repairs recenty. All new except the dt10 but the issue had been there since new. So i dont mind a issue with a $300 pump that will get bounced around in trucks and on quads
It was fixed. Odell paid for shipping both ways and repaired it no questions asked. I agree id prefer a perazzi over any turkish gun but they do have their place

For me the shape of the stock and the slightly raised front sight gives me a comfortable cheek weld.
I can still feel a slight drag on the bolt at the rear of travel
But it will loosen over time

I have 3 turkish guns currently.
A tristar ou that was a prize at a dinner. Absolutely horrid piece of crap. It was a lesson in self gunsmithing and the warranty center was the worst service ever. Wasnt even a service. I had to threaten to sue so i could get replacement pins and they sent me the wrong ones.
Next is a asena from corwin arms. Ive had some issues. 2 broken bolt locks. Each time 1 email and corwin arms had the parts shipped to me in under a week. Amazing service and the company supprts what they sell and ill gladly buy from him again
Lastly is this canuck regulator. It had an issue right out the gate but it was dealt with promptly. Took longer to recieve the shipping label then to fix and return it actually.
Certain turkish brands are still junk but others are only improving. I run the skeet for my local club so i get to see what works and what fails week after week

Both ways is a bonus..Kodiak is one way only
Something to consider for future purchases?? $50 everytime with Kodiak
Something for the retailers to use as a marketing tool!!!:)
And of course Martin at Corwin is top shelf..
