I would like to thank those who have helped. Really appreciate the quick responses. I don't plan on shooting the Defender any time soon, but a broken gun is just a paperweight.
You'll have to dremel the inside of mag tube to get spring and follower out.. muzzle end of course
After reading all the replies, and RE READING your reply in-particular, I think this may be the best option.
Mine is new and tight action the further back the bolt goes.
The Swiss grease seems to smooth it out and don't baby it till it wears in
I got the wood stocked one, don't know if it makes any diff, but the action was pretty smooth from the get go. Obv not as smooth as a wingmaster 870, but lets say 3/4 as smooth as a reg 870, no noticeable tightness/binding.
I have only taken it out ounce tho, took her to a popular shooting spot 2 hours east of Toronto and put 150 rnds of winchester white box #7.5 "El cheapo" thru the Defender. I had 3 malfunctions total, but all of them user error, my errors.
Mostly , Im pretty sure all 3 malfunctions were caused by failing to push the last loaded round into the mag tube securely/properly.
I was rapid firing at pop bottles and bleach jugs that were littered all over this popular shooting spot. (the whole place has 20ft berm/hills, only shooting in safe direction)
I must have started loading too rapidly, and just not stuffing the last round loaded over the retaining clip properly.
I have had the tube magazine release break on mine. The action would rack but not release a shell from the tube. I delt with the gunsmith at north silva directly. Great guy to deal with by the way. Other then that I have had no issues with it and it gets carried a lot on my outings.
I am really hoping this is not the case with mine. I have heard loading a live round may loosen it, or unstuck it. I am not going to chamber live ammunition's in my dwelling. I think its too irresponsible to load, if you aren't planning to shoot. **whoops wife , sorry my 12ga just randomly took out the ceiling fan.... MY BAD ** /sarcasm. (it probably wouldn't happen without the trigger being actuated, but I don't know the gun well enough to attempt. especially with jammed #### in it)
The defender is just another rebranded turkish pump gun.
The tube unscrews from the from of the frame just like a mossberg. It may or mag not have loc tite on it
Thanks for this bit of info. I hope it doesn't come down to that, but I wasn't sure if it was threaded into the receiver or welded/fastened
I am hoping to use this as a last resort, if I can't either:
(A) flip the plastic "washer" under the threaded mag tube end cap (flip sideways as EL34/6L6 explains #31 this thread)
OR
follow the advice of Ganderite ( pop that bull#### ring tf outta there!)
I will pop the plastic "washer" disc outta there tomorrow (well its almost 4am) AHEM I mean today. I will be back with the verdict.
Thanks to all who helped. Much much appreciated.
I feel like a complete gun noob. I was just in another thread a month or 2 ago . confused about 3/8 dovetail scope mount on the defender. I had no idea on how to mount an optic. My shooting buddy said that the defender has a rail, and pointed to it, but I was too stupid to understand, cuz I only previously seen picatinny rails. I shot 12ga pumps and 22's , 270win when i was 13 years old. I really felt so stupid.
What this rant is about, is a solid thank you to those who provided substance in this thread.
I really can't blame people for not pointing me in the right direction as far as asking about the rail. If you're too stupid to figure it out with some "google fu" , you probably should be trusted to own one! XD
