About 25 years ago I was buying a couple of black powder revolvers in the US. I didn't know if they had serial numbers on them as BP firearms in the states have very few controls. I called the CFC and asked about putting serial numbers on the guns so they could be registered. At that time they told me it had to be a minimum combination of 1 letter and three numbers or 1 number and three letters (can't remember whichWhen they were pulling that SN crap. Did they demand it to be so long. If they said i had to it would have been SN 22, 308, 35 or the caliber thats already stamped
