So this past weekend I took one last trip out for deer before the season closes. I headed up to the Chilliwack lake area, and hiked into Greendrop Lake. The parking lot for Greendrop/Lindeman lakes is closed this time of year so I was parked on the side of Chilliwack lake road. Showed up late Friday night, slept in the car, and was on my way up the trail by 7.30am.
I was shocked to see no sign at all, not a single dropping from deer or bear on my 6+km hike in and then back out. That alone made me feel like my final day of the season was terrible. Then I got back to my car before 4, only to find someone had smashed my front passenger side window! They opened the glove box, stole my phone charger and keys (not my car or house key, but the rest, gun locker/locks, shed, rooftop cargo carrier, etc) the empty rifle case on the front seat and MY ####ING CLOTHES! My duffel bag of clothes was on the front seat and the #######s stole it!
It looked like a quick job, they didn't even open a door. Just smash and grab what they could reach. I guess they didn't see any value in the sleeping bags under the clothes, or maybe their dirty thieving hands were already full... Lucky for me, they didn't see the two ammo cans in the back seat, nor did they go into the trunk where my shotgun and duffel of hunting stuff (calls, rain gear, spotting scope, etc, probably $300+ worth of random stuff) was located, but #### what a way to finish my deer season...
So needless to say I won't be hunting up that way again, and let this be a warning to anyone else who is considering it. If you leave your vehicle unattended in the Chilliwack lake area, be prepared to have your window smashed and your car robbed. I noticed two other piles of glass on the ground near my car so clearly this sort of thing isn't uncommon there...
