Need some advice from my fellow CGN's.
Im going to purchase a 1911 45ACP. Either a Spring Field Range Officer or a Sig. Tac Ops.

I am debating on the bottom accessory rail and if I need it. The only thing that I was thinking of putting on it is a combo laser/flashlight.
Would I ever use it or is it just a waste?

What are your thoughts.

Thank you

Long term 1911 owner/user here. I like my 1911's with iron sites, no lights or extra do-dads.

Get the accessory rail & other 'toys' if they float your boat. But you would probably be better served spending the extra money on ammo & shooting instead.

Of the two choices, me, I'd go with the SA Range officer model.

Just my .02

Well unless you’re a SWAT team tactical commander then, no. As NAA says, spend your money on ammo.

Never liked the kimbers or sigs due to the external extractor

have lots of 1911s with rails, none have anything mounted on them, look cool, but that's about it.

get the RO

why is there ALWAYS a Norc lover recommend a Norc when someone is asking about a mid or high range pistol?

I bought a nitron finish tacops a month or so ago. The rail wasn't a huge selling feature. Very nice weapon and i just liked the looks. The rail does make it look very cool. Plus mg eyes aren't getting any better so i may have to put a laser on it at some point.

I’ll defend your choice. None of us will likely ever “need” any of these toys. Cool factor should always be a consideration in your purchase.

Completely agree. I love the 1911 platform and plan to purchase a few more in various makes and models. I am however going to purchase at least 1 that's a bone stock mil spec unit because they are an extremely attractive weapon in stock form also.

1911 fanboy..had many ..with and without rails..prefer the look of an uncluttered version..but if it carries a light I’m not opposed..I know it’s useless here in Canada..but eitherway they are puuuurrrrdy...

Get a norinco and shoot the hell, out of it . Then you will have
an idea of what you want

This is also sound advice. I've had several Norinco 1911's over the year & still have a few. Personally, I've never had a lemon Norinco 1911 yet of all those that I've owned. At the moment I'm especially enamored with the "no made in China markings", plain jane 1911A1 type version. I guess it's because it's so USGI 1911A1-like....

You can usually get into one of the above for around $325'ish. Leaves a lot of room for ammo purchase. ;)

I'll drink to that!

Both of NAAs replies are dead on accurate. The RO would be my first choice but if I was on a budget, the Norc would be considered for sure. No rails on a 1911 for me but that’s just my preference. Go with what you think you’ll want to shoot more.

It’s a fine piece of kit.

Also worth mentioning is the Remington R1 enhancemed, I’ve owned two and they are very accurate.
