Picked up a new to me, but Unfired bcl 102 in green. I am a noob when it comes to black rifles, but I picked this up for fun/deer hunting. I was a bit skeptical because of some iffy reviews, mostly about fte. But I am happy to report after a quick range day, I am very pleased with this rifle.

I fired two boxes each of 180 grain super x and federal blue box, and half a box of 150 grain super x I had laying around. Not one failure, other then the xcr mag is a bit tight, and I didn’t notice it wasn’t seated properly, and the bolt failed to pick up a round. Flawless with the iwi mag.

I slapped on a bushnell red dot I had laying around while I wait for new rings for my scope to come in. Bore sighted, ended up about 2” high at 50 yards. Ringing steel at 150 yards without much trouble. I couldn’t resist a mag dump and it at the rounds up and spit them out like it was mad at them. Nice little pile of brass about 6 feet away at about 5 o clock. Seems odd it flings them backwards, if I was a lefty I probably would be needing dental work.

one negative is the cerakote does not seem very tough? I accidentally fumbled a bit trying to mount the red dot and it took a chip out of the cerakote near the top of the trigger on left side.... but the $250 red dot is still mint?? Also the brass was marking up the cerakote pretty good from ejecting. But whatever. Won’t be the last time it gets some marks on it. Some people pay for a “battle worn” finish haha..

In summary i think I have my new favorite rifle. I’ll see if it can come close to my savage for accuracy. Might have to be my new go to for hunting. I’ll see how it does with a proper scope on it when I get a chance. Plus made in Canada is a big plus for me.

Congratulations on your first foray into the black gun life. Beware it gets contagious as these terrible devices to peoplekind begin to multiply in the safe. Seriously tho you have a fine NR hunting rig that will serve you well as long as you treat the gas gun right. What I found is this particular rifle runs better wet.

xcr mags need a bit of modification to work reliably. Put a couple of rounds in the mag that works and the xcr mag and view from the back. You will see where metal needs to be removed with a dremel

I put a piece of self adhesive velcro about 2" long on the receiver behind the ejection port to stop brass dinging the receiver

Is there an aftermarket deflector that us leftys can install to prevent a brass diet?
Also curious about the charging handle

I ordered one of these to try out and I'm a lefty, should I be concerned about eating brass?

Nope, you'll be fine. I am left-handed and shot 160rds, a mix of factory ammo and handloads. Mine unfailingly ejected brass between 1 and 2 o'clock, and generally the hotter the load, the closer to 2 it ejected.

The Caldwell works awesome.

Good to hear, that brass catcher looks like a good idea too since I reload my ammo

I mean you will be shooting and the charging handle will come back and hit you in the face... I thought I got one that didn't have that "feature" but roughly 1000 rounds in and wham charging handle to the face...

Find out what caused it to happen? Latch on charging handle or receiver worn where the handle locks up worn?

just to let you know there is a recall on the extractor.

Hello ,

We will send you a new bolt with a new extractor as our extractors are under recall and have been causing stove piping. Can you confirm that address below is where you want them shipped?

Rob

The charging handle latch was worn and on a second look after Ryan from SFRC asked about one of the "wings" on the charging handle felt a little softer than the other "wing" and mine did so I figure the charging handle was worn out...... never had that on any of my ARs.... I bought a Raptor charging handle and it's good to go again did a pile of shooting one the weekend and didn't get the charging handle in the face once. :) go figure BCL made a part that wears out way sooner than any other company out there.... and I emailed BCL and haven't gotten a response in over a month....
