back to TB.........

I certainly agree that this would be the BEST choice, and I think one could add "a modern hunting rifle" WITH SCOPE. But maybe that is not in the cards for the guy???

Oh trust me I'd be out buying a Tikka in 6.5x55 this afternoon if I had the cash for it, but the money tree has been picked clean by the budget buzzards this season. :p What I listed is all I have to use (rifle wise).

Sell all those guns, and buy a hunitng rifle and stick a Leupold on it...;)

I don't know if you can read minds but I have actually already made that offer in this case.

I'd say it depends on what sort of an encounter you expect and where you're hunting. Most of my mulie hunting has been brush patches and coulees. Most of the shots have presented themseves as walking or running game for which I'd want the scope.

On several occasions I've been presented with 200 yardish shots at standing targets that I could shoot from a rest and for those I'd risk iron sights. Either the 6.5mm or the .303 are adequate calibers. Most of my deer have been taken with 130grain .270WSM's which won't be much faster than the sweede.

Bulls**t

a 6.5x55 with a 130-140 grain bullet @ 2600-2700 fps is as good or better than a 30 cal 150 grain the same speed. The long 6.5 bullet retains its velocity better and is a perfect match for deer sized game. With proper placement it will take moose as well.

Tod,

If a 6.5x55 can go through fairly dense branches and still be on target then Im all for it.

And dont say a 30 cal cant, because ive seen it done.

1) Use the Swede, get scope if you can ;)
2) Sell something and get a .280 :)
3) Borrow one if need too...

who is talking about shooting into bushes? you said that 30 caliber is needed for the distance - which is incorrect

In central BC hunting, 100 to 300 yards, Mule Deer, rolling hills, some brush cover. Grizz and Moose country, about a week.

So which one of my Rifles?

As has been mentioned none of your rifles are ideal but all will work if you know your limitations. I know I could pack any of them and have meat in the freezer by the end of the week.

If forced to pick one I would take the Swede. Either of the Enfields would be a close second.

tests have been done that showed bullets, no matter what diameter, that were heavy for caliber (high sectionaly density) had the best odds of being deflected the least.

A 140 grain 6.5mm bullet has the same SD as a 190 grain 30 cal
