John Garand came from a very humble background,he had very little formal education, he started sweeping floors in a textile mill when he was 12 or 13 ,in Massachusetts, he learned English while at work, as his background was French Canadian, I believe he took correspondence courses to learn about running a lathe , later working in precision tool factories, he was a a self taught genius when it came to designing and producing the M1 rifle

He was a tool maker, so he could integrate design with production techniques, good combination.

Grizz

Sergei screwed up. Got drunk, called Comrade Commissar a "Pizdec", fell asleep under a truck and woke up to find the column had moved off without him.

Lucky for Sergei, Comrade Captain needed him alive for a job. Unlucky, for Sergei, necessary job was driving the refueling tank:

The TR-26C was designed to allow a tank column to carry refueling capability with it. That's 2000 liters of go-juice, conveniently located just above the driver.

No word on effectiveness or longevity in service. But if a Hitlerite could get within rifle range of it, it could be a bad time for Sergei.

An ME-323, or the sad remnants thereof:

Much was made of the 323's voracious appetite for materiel. What else did she eat?
