Tikka T1x Review

T1X modifications anyone?

Some thoughts as I tinker with the T1X.

I’d like to have mine set up as a .22 trainer to be paired the exact same way as my T3s in .308 and .223. Each rifle is in a KRG Bravo, has a Lumley bolt knob, YoDave trigger springs, and Bushnell scopes.

KRG is apparently releasing something at Shot Show so hopefully I’ll get myself a T1X compatible Bravo before long.

The T1X trigger is way light than a stock T3 trigger when the trigger weight is adjusted. The factory trigger now feels just like the triggers on my T3s.

I was really hoping the bolt knob on the T1X would have the same set up as the T3s. It does not, although it has the same shape. Does anyone know if the aftermarket plastic knob that Tikka / Stoeger sell is compatible with the T1X? I tried to take the plastic knob off my CTR’s bolt handle with no luck. Any pointers on how to remove it without damaging it? I strongly suspect they aren’t compatible as the T1X handle has a slightly different shape. Any leads on an aftermarket bolt knob that would be similar to the CTR or Lumley one?

Lastly, I don’t own a T3X but I do have a spare T3 Varmint and a T3 CTR stock that the T1X can sit in. They appear to be compatible except for a strange plastic pin on the bottom metal of the T1X near the rear action screw. There is no corresponding hole in the T3 Varmint stock but there is one in the CTR stock.

I’m also currently waiting for a DIP picatinny rail to arrive in the mail.

Other than that, I hope to get it set up the way I want it and get out and shoot.

A quick criticism - the bolt on my CZ455 is quite a bit smoother than the T1X’s. However, the 90’ bolt throw feels ridiculous compared to the short throw on the T1X.

Has anyone tried SK ammo with good results? My Savage MKII loves the stuff so I have plenty on hand.

My T3 varmint will accept the T1 trigger guard. When first installed there was a slight bowing and the magazine needed to be solidly placed. Left in place for a month and the bow is gone and the magazine is much easier to replace

Has anyone figured out why the plastic pin is on the back of the T1 trigger guard? I'm thinking it's likely for positioning, do the newer T3x Lites have it as well?
I know my 5 or 6 yr old T3 doesn't have it.

How much height does it add? my rail has been back ordered too and I can’t decide what height rings to get for my 50mm scope

The DIP T1x rail adds approx 0.27" of height

Mine is in Miami enroute Canada.....

Kinney's is showing the 0 MOA in stock at the moment, delay is with the 25 MOA version

Got my Tikka T3x Varmint stock today.

I like it much better than the T1x stock due to the addition of the cheek piece (better cheek weld for me), the rubber recoil pad (increased LOP for me) and the additional front fore-end grip.

Am undecided if I will keep the vertical pistol grip on the T3x stock or swap it with the traditional T1x grip.

Since my CZ455 has a Thumb-hole stock I suspect the vertical grip will be kept on the T3x stock to match the angle of the CZ. Note the scope and rings from the CZ are now on the Tikka.

You’re lucky. I ordered one as well and they (DIP) ran out of stock. They don’t expect mine to ship until the 21st.

I received an email last week from Patrick saying my rail was going to ship on the 21st as well. Email from him on Monday saying they are expecting some 20 moa rails this week and mine should be sent out by Friday.

I got my USPS shipment notification yesterday.

Just did a quick test with my Strike Eagle 4-24 x50 EBR-4
Leupold QRW2 rings, 30mm , gloss , Low (174073)
With the Bikini scope cover ( factory) on , there is at least 2 paper thickness of space . I don’t have the time to cinch them down properly yet but I can’t see much difference when done. I don’t think there would be enough space for flipup Butlers( none in my junk drawer)

Finally arrived. I bought a spare mag also.

Looks good, as I’ve been waiting for my base and scope I’ve been working the bolt, should have close to 1000 cycles on it and it has smoothed up considerably. Got my covenant FFP scope yesterday. They are on sale at that big box store for 279.99. I had some gift cards so thought I’d give it a try.

Tikka223, that’s great! I’ll have to check my email.

Is that scope primarily for the T1X? Any advantages to the FFP scope over a SFP on a rimfire?

The biggest advantage with a FFP scope with a reticle such as these is that the lines or dots represent the same distances through the focal range. A SFP scope with have different distances for different powers on the scope.

With a FFP scope reticle size increases with magnification. I guess if it had sufficiently fine crosshairs they wouldn't cover too much of a bullseye at full magnification.

It’s a balance. To fine and you can’t see it, to thick and you can’t see a small target at greater distances.

I have the SFP version but I would much rather the FFP.

Yes, what Scott said. This is my first FFP scope, actually picked up two of them. The reticle is quite fine, at 4 and 5 power the reticle is very fine, too fine for hunting on the lower powers I would think. May be a different story once I get some time behind it.
