HS they Ontario is holding the price for hunting licences

Where are you at?

I live in Muskoka-Parry Sound and its been a pretty good winter. Its started a bit early, but it really hasnt materialized to much of anything at this point. Not a lot of snow. Not very cold. Hell, I went out to check my favourite lake and there still open water. Most years its locked solid by this point.

North of North Bay. Haven't seen this much snow since I was a kid.

Tried to reach my Muskoka property just before new years. Plus 7 temperatures and rain the day before turned a little creek into a river. Took us two hours to find a way across

Wow, thats something.

I mean, I have had snow on the ground since about Nov 8th, but its probably not much more then a foot. Its either been like + temps and raining, or like -10 and clear. Not much in between, and the bit of snow we do get is wiped out in the + temps.

Our place is in Nipissing Township has about 30 inches on the ground right now. Without snowshoes I will post hole to above my knees in the bush. Seems to be a line around Burk's Falls where north of that all those rain events were snow for the most part.

I’m in the minority, admittedly without understanding Ontario’s system in the slightest, who would like to see tag prices higher for both resident and non-resident and all money put into conservation efforts not general revenue. Will never grumble at investing in the future of wildlife, however I will readily concede in many jurisdictions including BC tag revenue is squandered under the present system.

Ardent, the liberals used the money from hunting licences as a slush fund, even though they are specifically earmarked for the Ministry of Natural Resources for hunting and angling. The libs STOLE the money & no one has been held to account... I'd like to see the current Conservative Gov in ON investigate this & prosecute the libs for stealing these funds.

Absolutely, where the hell did that money go?! It was all earmarked for conservation programs. And it disappeared.

In BC most of the money goes straight into general revenue. The whole licensing system needs an overhaul, as conservation could really use those funds.

I agree with Ardent in saying a few extra bucks for a license isn't a big deal considering the good it can do, but that money needs to be allocated properly...

We are almost neighbors and I agree. The temps now are almost reminiscent of my childhood years as well!!! We had 9 turkeys hanging around during the fall and early winter, but, they have disappeared. Where is all the global warming. The way they talk, I was ordering some citrus and banana trees for the front yard. I guess I'll stick with spruce and pine.

I can't say that this upsets me I just hope that the "service fees" weren't what was being put back into the system to help pay for co's and wildlife funds and projects

If your'e talking about taking out a mortgage with what you guys pay at present, just be thankful that your'e a Canadian. As a Non-Resident landowner in Ontario with all the land I need to hunt over you would not want to be paying for my tags that's for sure!!!!!
Be Happy!

Plus:
I have Moose that I can't even hunt!!!!!
Same deal in West Quebec. As a non-resident landowner I get to pay an outrageous price for a licence and can't hunt moose or black bear on MY property without using 2 services of an outfitter!

YES SIR,
It is a real sad affair for sure!
As a landowner your paying land tax but as you say that's where the privilege stops.
I've watched the Non - resident tag rise to the point that it just becomes uneconomical & I'm considering marrying a lovely indigenous girl. That way we might get to hunt for free!!!!!!
