Hi
I am looking for guidance on figuring out pricess fro couple of quality AR's

1. DD M4v1. About 200 rounds. Original price was close to $1900+tax

2. SW M&P15T. About 300 rounds. This is not the cheap one which has been selling for $699. Got this in 2013 or so for $1200 USD+tax. It the HBAR version with troy industries Modular Rail Foreend.

Your help would be appreciated.

80% of what you paid new?

Then reduce the prices incrementally until they sell?

With all my restricteds, this is exactly what i do the the percentage point close.
As long as it’s not a rare item (sold some rare revolvers for 3x what i paid.)
May i add, 80% of what you paid, before taxes and shipping.

While i have little experience with ARs, i used to buy and sell handguns every month or two.
Since the Liberal ban discussions have been looming, the used market took somewhat of a beating.
Not flipping guns anymore until this normalizes.

I still chuckle when I see a "lightly used with NCSTAR scope" Norinco for $750...like, a brand new one is $650....

Nothing against Norinco I have owned a couple and if I had the money I would buy a few more for fun but not for anything over $4-500.

Evening, anyone know where to put my colt IUR 18" barrel up for sale? Not sure if this is the propee forum.

Thanks

The issue with pricing AR's is that they've been more volatile than the stock market. When Obammy was in and there was talk of a ban, they were almost unobtanium. I remember watching news programs with dealers in the states that would show an empty wall, where a week before there was 100 AR's sitting there. And yes, I know this isn't the states, but it affected our pricing and availability up here as well. We watched Norc's selling for almost 1K, and anything of any quality was selling for a lot more than that. Then, as talk of the ban passed, prices dropped, drastically in some cases. Manufacturers caught up with back-orders, and suddenly there was a glut on the market.

I realize your question is about pricing, but you have to take these things into consideration, because depending when you purchased, the price may have been inflated due to the shortage. I remember getting my first AR - a Norc - on sale with the quad rail for just under 1K, and it was a good deal at the time. But I doubt there's anybody out there that would give me 80% of what I paid for it now.

"High end" ARs are never going to sell for what you buy 'em for. Most people don't want a used one if they're buying one of those at all. Go lower on the DD. 60% of buying price should be a realistic starting point.

This is a good thing to keep in mind if you want your rifles to sell relatively quickly. You also need to consider how the market has shifted. I am sure that your DD M4V1 and the S&W MP15T are still mighty fine rifles but a lot of people have moved away from heavy quad picatinny rails. So depending on the buyer that makes your rifles less desirable/valuable.

With the NR options now available many will choke on spending $1200-$1500 on a restricted AR, when for the extra cost of a separate hunting rifle they can have one rifle that does both. Competition types already have higher end ARs. Your market is non-hunters looking for basic range toys. Cheap sells faster.

Franken ar-15s are also a harder sell unless it lines up exactly with what someone is looking for. Brand name factory rifle like kac, noveske, etc seem to hold their value better but still hard to get back what you paid unless you got it used in the first place

Most people that I see sell used for the same or sometimes even higher than new , mind blown everytime
