Sure, but I doubt it is still really called hunting. You can blow up gophers with a .243 too but it's just for fun. Not really hunting.

If you're a skilled hunter you can harvest one with a 50 cal. BP rifle. But a 50 BMG is a tad over-kill.

(I've never seen a max caliber listed in any hunting regs..)

You've got a pretty broad question there pal...

And for what it's worth, I've shot a few coyotes with a .50 BMG- it does indeed kill them. I don't think deer are that much tougher

Correct me if I’m wrong OP but don’t muzzle loaders and 12g sabots use a .50 cal projectile, if so lots of deer go down from those.

I shot 3 bucks in one day with my 50 cal this past muzzleloader season. 2 were DRT.

I've shot a few deer with a 50 bmg and used 750 gr hornady a-max's. There was no damage what so ever to the meat. I shot them all from the side in the vitals. The first one I ever shot I thought I missed because it ran 80-100 yards before dying. The bullet did not mushroom at all and it looked as though it was arrowed with a field point, just a 1/2" hole right through

My ML is 50 calibre, but uses 45cal bullets in the sabot. Bullet with sabot make 50cal. But I get your point... 50 cal drops deer...

My muzzle loader black powder rifle is 50 cal and it's great for deer.

So .50 cal, great for deer and more popular than you thought!

Hunting with a 50BMG is either sitting somewhere and hoping animals stop by, or carrying around a 6’ fence post at least 6” in diameter. I have driven a highway semi tractor to go grocery shopping. Both pointlessly complicated exercises when there are any other options.

IIRC alberta tactical did just that a few years back. Had pics in a similar thread. Damage is not as bad as you might expect.
