I am looking at getting into bolt action rifles for shooting out to 800yards.

Essentially I want it to fill the gap that my Mk12 style rifle does not.

I know a few things that I want:

1. Chambered in 6.5cm
2. Scope will be a Vortex PST II 3-15x FFP MRAD
3. Surefire 260 muzzle break

However I’m torn between these rifles:

1. Savage Ashbury 10
2. Remington 700 5-R Gen 2
3. Bergara-14 HMR

I don’t know how to edit the poll for this topic.

I know all 3 are supposedly well reputed, but with Remington’s QC issues, Savage’s lack of aftermarket support and Bergara seems relatively new to the market (to me) I don’t know which to go with.

Thoughts?

Bergara still has good QC unlike rem, but compatible with a lot of rem 700 parts. The factory stock is actually quite nice.
Having had R700s and Savages, Bergara is my favourite

I voted Bergara. But that being said I recently purchased a 24’’ tikka ctr in 6.5 Creedmore. Headed out today doing load development I shot two different three shot groups of 140gr Berger hybrids .274 & .456 @ 100yds average velocity for all 6 was 2647fps extreme spread of 11. Now I need to build some more and try them at a distance but I’m pretty sure this will be a winning combination.

How about the regular Savage Stealth? The black one. They shoot great and are cheaper than the Ashbury. One 3 shot group is even under 1/2" at 200 meters, another just barely over! Factory rifle with a Heathen brake.

I never thought of Savage of having an issue with aftermarket support.
anything I ever went looking how I had no issues finding from barrels to stocks .

Remington and the QC stuff has been blown out of proportion imo. Budget for a Trigger Tech Special though. The trigger does suck.

Google and the search function on this site are your friend! I feel like every other question is pretty much the same for guys/gals just getting into precision.

In saying that, I'd go with either the Rem or Begara on your list. They have essentially the same action (R700 SA footprint) and can be easily upgraded with a ton of aftermarket accessories!

I’d personally go with the 700.
I picked up one of those 24” threaded barreled actions in 6.5. It didn’t come with any of the fine details but the best I’ve shot it was a .533” at 100m using factory Hornady match 140gr ELD-M.

For me, that’s more than adequate and I’m looking forward to what I can squeak out consistently with my handloads.
I keep hearing about these supposed QC issues regarding Rem but I’ve yet to experience any myself.

Did you make up your mind yet?

The Bergera B14 is a Spanish cast receiver, I personally would not be too excited about one of those at current pricing. If you do a bit of googling they were blowing bolt shrouds apart if a primer pierced, fairly poor design.
Savages are ugly but they are safe actions, and they shoot well.
Remington 700 is a good safe gun as well, and also never had one that didn't shoot well. No QC problems encountered here with them, and have had plenty.

Their is nothing wrong with investment casting. It's largely used in aircraft industry...

Don't know why people associate it to "cheap"...

Issue with bolt shroud is limited to handload 6.5 creed with small rifle primers. They can supply machined shrouds if request.

I'd say those rem 700 are the worst QC ever seen in the industries. Savage 10 tr are as bad or equal to rem 700.
