Pistol light choice

I was between a TLR-1 and a X300 and was told by people with real world experience that " A Streamlight is a good light, but I wouldn't bet my life on it..."

I have had both, I honestly preferred the streamlight.
I now have a tlr-1 and a tlr-1 hl and a green laser tlr-2.
Sold the x300u. It was a nice light though, can't go wrong with either.

Necro thread alert.

I eventually settled on a Streamlight TLR-8. 500 lumens, red laser, single CRA123 battery that loads from the front so you don't lose the laser zero when you swap batteries.

It is very small and light.

I don't like how far I have to stretch my weak hand to reach the activation switches. I prefer the old paddles on my TLR-1 and M3.

It is small and bright.

The X300 is great, especially the new 1,000 Lumen ones. I opted for the Surefire XH30, same lumens, the option for a 300 lumen output and strobe. For the same money as the X300 I think its a bit better, and there will be a Canadian holster manufacture making holster in the next month or so as well!

Fits under the OP's price limit as well.

That's a pretty compact unit for light and laser. Does it accept re-chargeable CR123A batteries?

Looks like they have a new green laser version as well.

Manual doesn't say if it will take re-chargeables. Since it is one of my houseguns, reliability is more important than cost so I am just going to run it with good quality CR123s.

Makes sense.
The lasers are also good for dry fire exercises and that's where rechargeable battery's can be of benefit. Specially if you have other flashlights that use the same size cells.

This TLR has been mounted on work pistols and rifle, I don't know what those who wouldnt bet their life on it do but I have no problem working with a TLR-1

Other than the paddles ability to accidentally be hit when mounted on a rifle, I agree. On a pistol they're solid.

A light and a laser on a pistol is handy in case you wake up at 3:00 am with a sudden urge to practice dry firing.

I have a cheap $20 unit. It has held zero the one time I shot it. If it works one more time (if I get the sudden urge) that will be enough.

My wife got me a inforce compact pistol light for Christmas. I sure like it, bright but not to bright and won't break the bank either. Controls are easy to manipulate

Not too excited about spending surefires crazy price on a light that basically becomes obsolete 2 years after you buy it.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with all the lumens! A force multiplier in blinding potential of your adversary plus if you need to use it outdoors on a long gun it will extend your range of target identification. Not to mention the vast improvement in efficiencies of LEDs the last few years.
I have an older TLR-1 (the 230 lumen model I believe) really like it. It's now on my 12 gauge bear defense camping gun and has been holding up to the 12 gauge recoil.
Lately I've been trying the Olight PL-1 and PL-2 Valkyries. I'm pretty keen on how inexpensive they are and the button interface is great. Testing has shown that they don't hold up to 12 gauge recoil so the older PL-1 is on my AR15s M-lok handguard and the PL-2 sits on my Glock 17.
My next light will be a Olight PL mini 2. Just announced at Shot this year and looks tiny and like it will finally fit my HK45C. 600 lumens and comes in burnt bronze.
After that it's probably time to upgrade my shotguns TLR with a newer high lumen model.

X300 u !!!
Stream lights will get yourself and you’re ( squad, given the scenario) killed ! Drawing from the holster or holstering or even doing a magazine change minipulating slide lock the light constantly goes off due to the switch that use... if you want to let the enemy know where you are in the dark go streamlight.
For range use only, doesn’t matter, the light has great power and all around if tuff.

For those looking for a solid light at a competitive price, I've had some time with Olight's PL2, and have been extremely impressed. Solid construction and form, bringing it fairly close to the Streamlight-standard, but for about $150.00 less. I have little need for a pistol light, but when I do buy, this will likely be the selection. If i were a heavy user, I'd still likely go with a Streamlight TLR2, and not surefire.

... within the vague definition of "reasonable force" .. which is force an imaginary, average person, would feel is reasonable.

I see the Olight P2 is rechargeable. A nice feature. And on sale for $85
