Hello fellow gun owners.

I am a big fan of 7.62x25 round and constantly looking for ideas and actual 7.62x25 conversions made by fellow enthusiasts. I open this thread to collect, share and exchange ideas on converting modern firearms into this round. This thread is not intended to compare it to other calibers. Just for actual conversions please.

So far I managed to convert Norinco NP29 to 7.62x25 by using a 6" barrel manufactured by J&G sales (https://www.jgsales.com/7.62x25-tokarev-barrel-kit,-6-inch,-for-1911-wilson,-kimber,-springfield-in-9mm-or-38super.-new,-by-j-g-sales.-p-6472.html?products_id=6472)

I had to make a frame cut for Nowlin system, fit the barrel and used a compensator to hide the barrel lenth . I used Mec-Gar (MG-CGOV38B) 38 super mag to feed the gun. I can fit 7 rounds of unmodified ammo in this model. I am still looking for other mags to see if I can fit more.

It turned out to be a very reliable and accurate shooter. I went through a 100 rounds of Russian surplus ammo with only one light strike. Absolutely love the set up. The only thing that annoys me is the mag reloading routine. Hard on fingers.

Here is an older picture. I will upload a newer version soon

The next project I am thinking about is to make a carbine in 7.62x25 that will use my 1911 mags. After lots of research I decided to use JRC (Just Right Carbine) as a base and make a custom barrel. I am thinking of using this "30 Carbine Barrel Blank" from Trade Ex as a base. https://www.tradeexcanada.com/content/30-carbine-barrel-blank-4-grove-1-16-rh-twist-4140-htsr

Has anyone performed a similar conversion? What do you think about JRC conversion? Any better non restricted takedown options I missed?

Anyone interested?

I, too, used the J&G kit to convert a Norc 1911 to 7.62x25.

I bought a quantity of box primed brass and reload with either the plated 110 gr M1 Carbine bullets or the lead, SWC bullets intended for the 32ACP target pistols. Both are very, very accurate.

To fit the 38Super mag, the bullets have to be seated deeper than usual. For my target loads, this is not an issue.

For milsurp, the bullets have to be seated a bit deeper, which boosts pressure. But I get light strikes on those hard primers and get 50% misfires. I could install a stiffer hammer spring, but I really like the 2.5 pound crisp trigger just the way it is.

Wow. Great to know that there is another 1911 conversion. Did you get a standard barrel or ramped? I remember reading that their standard barrel had issues with milsurp cartridges. What mags do you use? How many factory rounds can you fit in? I keep reading that there are mags where you can fit 9 rounds. I believe that it was a 1911 38 special wadcutter mag, but I can't find any for sale to confirm this.

Did you get a standard barrel or ramped? It is a standard barrel. A drop in replacement for the 9mm barrel.

What mags do you use? 38 Super mags. I wonder if there is a mag made for the 1911 that takes a longer round?

How many factory rounds can you fit in? Never counted. I am guessing 9.

I’d love to convert a 10mmGlock or 1911 to x25.

I recommend to go with 1911. I spent days researching this subject and there are at least 5-6 publicly discussed and documented 1911 conversions and literally just 1 Glock. And it doesn't seem to be a successful experiment. Plus there is an existing 7.62x25 barrel for 1911 available for sale. Here is a great article on this subject

Hope that helps.

Here is my conversion.
barrel is not ramped and is unmarked.
NP-29 pistol.
The magazines are L to R. Colt .38 Special holds 5 Tok rounds, no name .38 Special holds 5 Tok rounds, Colt .38 Super holds 3 Tok rounds, McCormick .38 Super holds 4 Tok rounds, Colt .38 Super holds 9 cases or handloaded rounds.
note difference in OAL of ammo.

Thank you for sharing Jack. I manage to load 9 factory rounds to my mecgar, but only with the help of a loader.
Here is a video of guy’s AK 7.62x25 conversion.

PS. Did anyone come across SKS conversion?

Please do try to post about this in the Milsurp forum!

What I really like to know how are people exporting/importing J&G barrels when that manufacturer doesnt have an export licence???!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Have these been imported a while ago before Obama signed the directive?

I've been looking into this for some time, however I won't have time to get such project done.
IMO best option for carbine would be: JR (modular system with detachable mag well and barrel) + custom barrel + custom mag well (3D printed?) and as for mags I would go with NP726 mags (because with other mags you're limited to 4-5 cartridges). It is also highly possible that JR 9mm bolt would extract 7.62 with no issues, as geometrically cartridge base dimensions are almost identical. 7.62x25 energy might require some experiments with springs of bolt weight, otherwise it's easy and doable. Hell, one can start making conversion kits.

There should be no issue.
my Tok came with an extra 9mm barrel and a magazine with a filler in the spine for 9mm.
no spring change.

The same was true for my 1911 conversion.
No spring change.
