Dangerous Game Rifle build suggestions?

Oh and for the record, I’ve always loved the look of Boomer’s shortened 458 model 70 and Geologist’s shortened 602. Something like that properly altered and tweaked a bit is probably what I’m looking for.

20" barrel 416 Ruger with a McMillan stock. it's all set up ready to go. Warne QD rings, optic of your choice (maybe an illuminated reticle or scope that features a red dot in the center of the reticle for fast target acquisition)

My 458 wm is a interarms mark x action. 26.6" douglas barrel. Custom hand checkered stock with inlays.

My next will be a 416 taylor. A much lighter and shorter gun. I was planning a savage 110 action and shilen barrel wrapped in a laminated stock however lately ive been thinking of using a zastava action.
Itll sport express sights. Quick detach scope mounts.

The 400hh is another option on my mind as well

After playing around with and hunting a few DGRs, my thoughts on ideal wouldnt seem all that foreign to anyone that has ever seen a factory M70 in .458. Mine evolved a bit, turning first into a .458 Lott then into a 11 shot , AI magged Frankienrifle culling machine. I sort of regret that last part now, but its reversible.

The Lott rechamber, box, bolt-stop, ejector mod is well worth it if only for getting away from hyper-compaction on very enthusiastic loads. Loads that push the bullet back out are less than optimum. Bedding in Devcon wouldn't be worth mentioning, except that split stocks are so very worth mentioning when they happen. A front sight on a barrel band seemed unnecessary until my front sight came off in the middle of a high volume buffalo population control hunt. If it can happen to me, it can happen to you. The fact that they exist at all suggest that it isn't the first time. Ditto for one piece soldered on rear express sights. Good thing I like scopes. A Limbsaver Nitro pad to stretch the stock a bit also serves the dual purpose of lessening the chance of breaking off a piece of the operator.

If someone were to take that basic theme and McMillan it up; it might make a Mozambique monsoon, or leaky boat ride on the Zambezi less traumatic for the rifle. Nothing much is going to ease the strain on the owner. ;) Judicious use of stainless steel and Cerokote sure wouldn't hurt if that's your idea of a good time.

Have a look at the Ruger M77 African in 416 ruger....around the 1700ish price for a place to perhaps start. 400gr bullet @2400ft/sec and over 5115 ft/lbs energy.

I rebarreled and restocked a tang safety Ruger 77 a few years ago to 416Ruger. It's a nice cartridge. Sadly I haven't had it out for anything yet.:(
