S&W M&P 15 Sport II or Norinco CQA

Ruger AR556 was on sale for 10$ more then a S&W M&P Sport II somewhere last week. One of the site sponsors. I read it in a email. But I will be damned if I can remember what shop. I thought it was a pretty good deal. 660$ in price for it If I remember right.

Surprized that no one mentioned building one. You get higher end componants and if you know where to look, you could build one for less than a CQA or M&P15. I have built a couple for myself and another person from my club and let me tell you when I bring my AR out, other members drop their M&P, DD and Sig's to come over to take a look at what $550 gets you... that's taxes and delivery of all parts included. Accuracy is at par, looks are killer compared to the M&P and little things like the trigger are so much better. I got a new Anderson trigger group for $44 which makes the double taps effortless. And think about the pride of ownership, to say that you put an AR together that is cheaper but so much better than your entry level AR. Building is the best bang for the buck.

while all that is true.

I went from no AR style rifle, to shooting my S&W almost overnight (time for approval to go thru and drive back to pick it up)

how long does it take to collect all the parts needed to build?
what skills are required to build from parts, to a shooter?
what tools are required to assemble a shooter from parts?

the Norinco & S&W are very simple, quick and easy guns for someone new, wanting to shoot.

it's like your first car, you can save up for years, buy a nice car, add some quality parts and eventually cruise around in a sweet ride.
or you save a few pay checks, buy a civic/Jeep/truck ASAP, and over time learn how to fix/modify it to suit your needs, years ahead of saving for the "best".

for a brand new RPAL person, they can put rounds down range ASAP with a S&W, and not need special tools or skills required to build a gun.

building may be best bang for buck.
but if I was a new shooter, best smiles for buck is a S&W M&P15 2 days after getting my RPAL and range membership.

also curious how long this took to build.

With the right tools and equipment, a little know how and as long as you have all the parts in hand, you can assemble in a few hours. The trick is being patient to wait for the deals on the parts.

Didnt jobrook have them for $699?

Where did you see them for $660?

Tenda had the Mossberg MMR with a Vortex SF2 for 1099. Not bad but hard to stomach when they were selling the rifle alone for 749 on Boxing Day

Still waiting for that first “insane” deal on a quality introductory AR in 2019. The Ruger AR556 for 699 almost did it for me

That.

And also, I thought about doing so but I honestly don't know how you did build for 550.

Aero or Anderson lower 80-100 on sale

Plus all the jazz you need to complete, or let's say used complete for 250.

Anderson upper 125
Norinco or NEA/BCL Barrel 100
Random BCG used 90-100, new 125+

We're already at the 5 bills mark, no tx, no shipping and still missing a ton of stuff, no tools to assemble and equal or lesser quality parts.

Don't bring the be patient or you don't know where to look, these are rock bottom prices from the last 2 years if you exclude NEA clearance which isn't happening again and which I would take a Norc or S&W all day everyday before one of those.

Like I said, I wanted to, but with the same cash, you gotta already own part of the stuff and/or get lucky, even if you know where to look.

As other members noted you forgot to mention couple of things:
- tools required
- knowledge on how to build and experience will come in handy too
- time to gather all components
- knowledge on what do you need (list of components, what brands, what models, compatibility) or a lot of time for researching online
- knowledge on where to search for those components
- hassle of dealing with multiple vendors and private persons to get all the components

I'm also kind of skeptical about the budget figure you mentioned. Would you care to give us break down and show your finished product?

I have 700 in my build, and it is a nice one! Shop carefully, and know what you want before your buy.

I've bought a 550 dollar sw with a vortex red dot. For people shopping for their first AR there's No reason to Build one unless you looking a very specific build . My very first ar was a build but it was when AR where 1500 bucks. I build one for around 900 . Shipping cost for parts from different source is another issue. 10 bucks here 15 bucks there adds up quick. Not to mention the tools. That's another 150 bucks for a decent enough wrench and a cheap receiver block and assume u have other basic tools. Of say buy one complete and get add on goodies then shop for the next cool receiver you want and build your second.

$659 @ Tenda, $699 @ PGT. Hurry up!! lol

Watch Tiger Arms. They had the S&W for $609 during Boxing Week. I got Cabela’s to price match it so I didn’t have to drive in from the valley. It’s my first MSR so admittedly I have nothing to compare it too, but I’m having blast with it.

I have a brand new Norinco CQ-A Commando 10.5 inch in my safe from a while ago, it will have to do. ( remember that deal from one of our sponsor one AR + 1K ammo for 699.00 )
