Picture of the day

Is that a T-34/85 under the bridge?Very sloped front glacis+MG housing does suggest one.

Believe it's an M26 Pershing.

What really matters here is the pathos of the moment, not the nomenclature of the tank.

Agreed. I get that. I'm sure the members that are now scrutinizing that pic did feel at first the graveness.
And now instead of sharing the empathy of...chose to look further.
I never noticed the boots of the deceased. Nor the second destroyed tank...
But I do now.

Italian Carcanos used in Finland.Looks like they were issued to civilians for defence from Soviet partisans. No wonder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_partisans_in_Finland

Pz-IV-H on the Golan Heights:

View attachment 248117

Knocked out during the Six Day War. The Syrians held the Golan Heights with a large collection of armour, but it was mostly Pz-IV's of various flavours. The IDF attacked with collection of M-50 and M-51 Super Shermans, Centurians,M48 Pattons, and AMX-13 tanks. Things went poorly for the old German tanks. The Syrian armour was effectively wiped out, with no losses to IDF armour.

Looks in pretty good shape considering
I wonder how much of the inside is intact. I've always had an interest in Mark IVs

I've got a pic of myself and an IDF LO standing beside that tank 40 yrs ago.

The Golan Heights is ideal terrain to defend against an attacker moving upwards. Poor leadership, training and low morale among the Syrians vs some guts, mental agility and some airstrikes by the Israelis caused them to throw away their boots and run like jack rabbits. A competent army never would have lost that one.

There was and intresting short documentary on you tube about the last German panzers and where the Syrians sourced them all for that 6 day war, off hand I can't remember the title

It depend about the quality of the people who are inside the tank more than the manufacturer of the tank.
