Russian SKS Importation Questions.

Hey Loose- Cannon as the Gentleman before me stated most of us don't know the exact number of Importers but there has been several boat loads of sks rifles imported into Canada. and to tell you the truth we don't care. as long as we are happy with what we own or have owned in the past. if you feel so inclined feel free to contact West rifle or Marstar or North Sylva etc and you yourself can inquire as to how many sks rifles have been imported into Canada. and if you contact West rifle he might be able to shed some light on whether the letter series sks rifles should have or not have a star stamped on the stocks and whether they came with hardwood stocks .

due to the fact he or they flew over seas and hand picked out what they sold from what I have heard. they are from that neck of the woods so I believe. and that's the bottom line .

From what I understand, West Rifle had the Ukraine insider or 'scout', North Sylva got the shipments out of the country (last one under armed guard) where they went to Germany for magazine mutilation, then to CA via Marstar. Shipments consist of one 44' container every 1 to 2 months loaded with 64crates/960rifles. This was the bulk of imports from the Ukraine circa 2008 - 2013/14 which consisted of "under 36K units" which I suspect means 35,520 units in 37 containers. In the same time frame there were also about 4 other smaller importers that obtained roughly 2 to 2.5 thousand units each. Also as mentioned, there was a late 1990s import batch that consisted of about 2.5k units.

Now, even if these numbers are not 100% accurate, it gives a conservative number of say 50k that I know of thus far. Surely if anyone reading this that has inside knowledge of other batches and their estimated quantities, please share what you know so we can have a tangible idea of the numbers with the least amount of 'imagination fantasy' as possible.

Thanks in advance.

MA_ _TA_ seems to be involved with all these imports??
Is JOHN still in the business? Or has he retired and the driving force to gets these into Canada is gone??
How many 10's of million are there in the world and we aren't getting any more?
Westrifle as he has been saying... is sold out..
Or are there no more Federal import permits being issued??
Seems odd..as the price on the EE has risen so retail prices will have gone up also

That may have been a source for some of the SKS rifles currently in Canada.

Hey Loose-Cannon. Where did Canada Ammo get their SKS rifles?

I dont know, but its possible this is one of the 4 smaller imported batches I mentioned in may last post?

We had a batch of YUGOS come in and they are pricey..
My thoughts are Tradex piggybacked off of Classic Firearms in the U.S.
What can our american friends tell us about where Classic is sourcing their RED rifles

Tradex IS one of the 4 smaller importers as detailed above.... I actually wrote that one down.

As far as Classic.... couldn't tell ya. I would have to inquire about who import marked the Yugos they had recently. I know they were from Slovenia.

The Yugos from Tradex have no import marks.
When do the U.S. guns have to be marked?
Before import or if marked on U.S. soil can they be reexported before marking?
Some of our import/ export firms have steady cross border traffic
So coming in the back door so to speak..
No way to find out or add them to the total imports into Canada

You would have to have access to all the ITAR forms
That would be a challenge

I was only inquiring about the Russian sks rifle imported in CA, but as far as the import marking of rifles...... https://www.atf.gov/firearms/firear...rms-ammunition-firearms-verification-overview

The importer must ensure that these marks of identification appear on each firearm. If the manufacturer did not mark them, the importer must place the required markings on the firearm within 15 days after their release from Customs and Border Protection custody.

I highly doubt that. Canam sold a lot of them. They would have had their own shipments brought in. Also I can’t imagine Westrifle importing for Canam.

The 4 I speak of were entirely different imports with different importers. The only thing in common would be from where and when.

Oh, I see now.... sold more then 2.5K.

Likely their rifles came from the 36k< that Marstar imported, if they sold in the same time period.

Canam sold more then Marstar imported? How do we know this? Is Canam an importer, or a distributor/vender? When did Canam sell them?

Canada Ammo is a retailer and an importer. They definitely sold more than a few thousand maybe even more than Marstar imported. They sold them for a few years not sure exactly when. Other members may chime in.
