Was looking at the results of shot show and was intrigued by the new 350 Legend cartridge. Winchester shows listings of the XPR bolt action rifle in it, but I was thinking it'd be well suited for Ruger's Mini 14 or any other short, light semi auto rifle (in the vein of the 1905, 1907 and 1910 WSL's - but perhaps not blowback). The claims of the FMJ loading selling for $9.99 a box (US) would certainly make it fun, economical and comparable to any SKS. I know it's not going to light the world on fire, but I hope Winchester doesn't let it die a crib death like so many other fine cartridges (284, 356, 375 etc.).

I like it as an option for the AR platform, since we have a couple of NR options available. Uses 223 rem diameter cases so 10 rounds, and 357 pills, cheap to load, good varmint round for things you want to eradicate...I can see it being quite destructive.

It was designed for restricted deer hunting states... doesn't make a whole lot of sense up here... but if you like it, give it a go.

Ive been waiting for a 350 legend thread, Id love to see it in a BLR. From the sounds of it it would be good for east coast white tail cartridge. That being said an autoloader would also be excellent. Given the mini 14 is chambered in 300 blackout I can't see them adopting another bigger bore cartridge based on the 223 case. But the price point on 350 legend is right on the money, pun intended.

I'd take a 35 cal autoloader over a 30-30 levergun any day.

Why compare a .35 cal Auto to a .30 cal Lever... there are quite a few .35 cal Lever guns around... and I would take any of those for hunting over a semi black rifle... "different strokes for different folks."

the longest the WSL in 1910 is the 357 max/supermag with the rim intact and function reliably .Probably one of those cz rebarreled to take the 350 L ,just a guess

It's very design screams autoloader, so yes, there will be lots of AR type platforms available with this cartridge. I would not be surprised if Marlin makes a lever gun for it, maybe the odd bolt gun, but I doubt it. Cartridges like this generally do not excite the bolt gun guys.
As a guy that has hunted with old style lever guns and bolt guns for many years, and has never been much of an autoloader guy it won't be joining my stable.

Get a 351 Winchester

Good luck finding ammo or even reloading supplies (cases, bullets) for the 351WSL.
The odd calibre bullets the 351 requires are hard to find.
Some think the bullets are the same as for 38s and 357s ... they're not true 35 (.357"), they're .351"/.352".
If you're a caster and have the correct moulds you should be OK.
Win 1907s in good shape aren't that plentiful either.

There seems to be a curse on 35 calibre cartridges.
The 35 Rem is the only one with a decent sized following because of the Marlin 336 rifle.

its a personal choice as to the usefulness or the type of actions person choses to prefer .In my opinion I think the old WSL rifles are really well built and very appealing to the eye .As for the 350 L cartridge it almost id the rebirth of the win 351SL with minor changes to address a specific market and doesn't make it good or bad choice .

Also with the old 351 SL I have loaded .357 bullets in the case and fired many as the .351-2 bore doesn't appear to differentiate what the bullet started off .005 larger and no difference in accuracy on the target vs the sized 351 bullet .Before I started to reload I used to purchase 357 mag and chuck them up in a drill and using a file reduce the rim to fit them into the mag way before the internet suggested it was a bad/dangerous practice

Would be nice to see a commercial built semi NR in this 350 legend

I seen the winchester adds a read a bit about it's performance - but there's not enough information being revealed to ascertain the merits of the 350 Legend. I think the case leans on the small side and would much prefer a 356 Winchester over a 350 Legend. I keep the semi's in rimfire for rabbit and grouse and would not be too interested in the 350 Legend for deer sized game. However, there are those that could use it as a low recoiler and for taking shots within a short distance. I don't think I'd want to wring it out to 200 yards on a big buck. And because the 350 Legend was magically compared to the 30-30 it would be a rare instance for me to use a 30-30 on a 200 yard shot on a big buck. And the exception would be with lever evolution rounds.
