How to dispose of old powder .

Twist it up in an empty toilet paper roll with some powder in the end, go outside, use toilet paper as makeshift fuse, light it up and stand back. No metal allowed! Then yell what Barney said lol.

My reasons for just chucking it are my age, and my decreased amount of shooting. Hell if I saved the stuff I'd be spread on the garden myself before I ever got enough to bother working up a load.

When thinking over stuff like this you have to remember we are all different in our shooting. One time I was that crazy reloader forever trying to get that extra few fps, and the tightest possible group. I shot thousands of rounds per year. Tried insane loads, as well as so called cat sneeze loads, (Why? um... just because!) and I went through a lot of powder. Well, that's fallen away, it's more like hundreds now, and where I live, I can shoot out the window if I want.

I'd never have believed it if you told me I'd be like this years ago.

Some years ago I was given about a 1/4 pound of 3F black powder that was supposedly a mix of Goex & an unknown brand. I decided against doing any reloading with it & it sat for a number of years in my powder locker.

One summer I had a huge ant hill appear in my back lawn, I tried Raid & other ant killers but nothing seemed to get rid of them.

On a very hot day the ants were very active & the tunnels were well exposed. I decided to experiment with my unwanted black powder I carefully poured it into several tunnels & stomped on the ground for a while to ensure that it was all well contained in the ground. I then took some unwanted WW231 powder & poured that over the area & left a trail of it about 3 feet long.

I then lit the smokeless powder & stepped back to a safe distance. There was a hissing noise as the 231 burned & then a deep"Whump"noise when the BP ignited. The sod lifted about 8 inches & smoke poured out of the ants nest. There were no ants to be seen & I have not had a problem with them since giving the little bastards the gun powder treatment.

This is probably one of the best posts I've ever read on CGN! Thank you for the laugh!

well now I have a 1lb can full of mixed powders, and there is some black powder in there :) I have a little issue with moles in the back yard and now I think I have a plan :)
