PSA re: bolt failures in recent import M-14 pattern rifles

i have a 2014 22" however the bolt seems to not be a "mim", i was considering buying one of those m305b-185's and was searching around here and came across this thread, pretty unfortunate that nothing has been done about these bolts yet

you are right...... quality started to take a serious down turn after 09 though. I saw a crap load of 2005 thru 2014 rifles while I had the shop open so got to really see the changes , the good, the bad and the really fuggen terrible LOL
Hopefully the importers are reading these threads and instead of getting pissed off at me (and others) for keeping it real..... maybe they will stop importing these new pieces of crap. They are a safety issue there is no doubt.

like when remington put all those rifles in the marketplace with crappy unsafe triggers..... the whole industry from manufacturer to retailer stepped up to ensure folks had a way to make there rifles safe again..... not so much with norinco LOL

Two things come to mind - good on you for buying ammo in bulk, but I'm guessing the company has that 'no BS' warranty is in Eastern Ontario. Their name shall not be spoken on CGN because of their idea of customer service surrounding a very dubious batch of Garand 7.62 conversions. I suggest you immediately ask for a spare bolt for the shooting bag. Firearms are the ultimate durable good, and you want to be prepared for five - fifteen - thirty years into the future.

The 2016 I had even had a receiver so badly outta spec it probably could not have made a good seal club. Won't even discuss the pos bolt. Hope the word continues to get out. Only when these things start backing up in inventory will importers finally decide to voice concerns.

As yo momma was saying new bolt may be in order, here is a source of new (non-MIM) bolts and they are here in Canada and in stock. I visited there and had a chat with John, their gunsmith; Grech Outdoors in Mount Forrest, Ontario. He sponsors the Meaford LRSC matches annually...
Hope a new bolt can / will / may / might make thins more sound.

Glad i discoverd this, was considering buying a norinco m14 and like others have said. The cavalier attitude north silva has about this issue is discusting.
 
I'm happy to see this thread has been resurrected. I just got a Wolverine IDF parts kit from the EE. I have a Ploytech Rifle but for the life of me I cannot tell whether it's forged or cast. The bolt is definately not MIM and it has decent accuracy at 50yards (Max at my range).

Anyone want to help identify what I have? Here are some pictures:

Well, it isn’t a Polytech....

The scope mount on there is IMHO one of the best on the market.....

I never did pay much attention to the lottery numbers on the side of the action (under the stock line) but there is someone around here who can translate them for you!

I thought the P14 designation indicated it was a Polytech. My mistake I thought I read it somewhere.

Just wanted to know if it was forged or cast, to see if it was worth the build with the IDF.

I added the mount afterwards. Got a good deal on the EE.

my guess is forged in 1991, assembled in 2014. if it's working fine now, why would you want to mess with it. there are worn out parts in the IDF kits, all used parts, luck of the draw.
 
I think there is a derail somewhere in this thread... I don't think we have seen any cast Chinese receivers to date, just MIM bolts that are the issue.
 
These MIM bolts make these rifles downright dangerous. I don't think that things are going to change unless people stop buying them or someone gets hurt and legal action is taken.
 
Id like to know if these were ordered with mim bolts to increase profits or if norinco made them this way without changing the specs to the distributor?

no dude, unfortunately , even though i tried to avert my eyes from the horror........ we have seen evidence of cast chinese m14 receivers.
