The Volksturm. A really desperate moment in the last months of the war.
Poor people, citizens preparing to fight a powerful and revengeful enemy with no hope and bad weapons...
I think those were the real unsung heroes.

Uhhh...
I'm not talking about the nazis but about their least known victims:the German people who couldn't help but endure their regime and had to ultimately fight the Russians in defense of the "Fatherland". Even then, they never had a choice: either you joined or were executed.Yes of course. If only they had prevailed what a world we would have.

There are very ordinary heroes on every side, in any war.

Exactly. Which is why I wrote that short story a year ago, about a German soldier. I am tired of people only assuming the Americans and Commonwealth countries had heroes...there were heroes amongst the Germans and Japanese, and even Italians...they were just on the other side.
Nazis lost...suck it up.
Plus they voted in their own destiny...there where very few innocent among them.
About the only one I have respect for (soldier wise) is Rommel.
Sticker, I love it! I will own a Swiss Luger someday as well. Apart from a naval or artillery luger, that is the only kind that I can get without my prohib license. The swiss lugers are also a bit cheaper, I believe...Ive seen artillery lugers go for $3000.![]()
Except that Guderian was an ardent Nazi while Rommel was not. In terms of proficiency as soldiers, yes, both were in the same league. I think Paulus was also under-rated considering the piss-poor support he was given from the Reich, over 1000 miles away from his logistics base.
Worst ever German military leader? It's a tie between Reichsfuhrer Himmler and LuftsMarschal Goering.
Very nice Rand there NAA. I picked up that 1909 Argentine Mauser thats been on the rack for a while. Needed a "fix" as hadnt bought a gun in a few weeks.
Geoff

No, you could get a Finnish luger too![]()
Geez, guys! Is this the "August Purchases " thread or not???
If you want to discuss your favourite WWII German general why not start another thread for it?![]()
