Just got this in the mail on Friday :) And yes, it's real 1945 Volkssturm issue.

Should display well with my late-war civic helmet and Kriegsmodel K98k ;)

The Volksturm. A really desperate moment in the last months of the war.
Poor people, citizens preparing to fight a powerful and revengeful enemy with no hope and bad weapons...
I think those were the real unsung heroes.
PP.

John Doe, hero...

Yes of course. If only they had prevailed what a world we would have.
I'm not talking about the nazis but about their least known victims:the German people who couldn't help but endure their regime and had to ultimately fight the Russians in defense of the "Fatherland". Even then, they never had a choice: either you joined or were executed.
There are very ordinary heroes on every side, in any war.
PP.
BTW, great and very unusual find, Claven2!

Exactly. Which is why I wrote that short story a year ago, about a German soldier. I am tired of people only assuming the Americans and Commonwealth countries had heroes...there were heroes amongst the Germans and Japanese, and even Italians...they were just on the other side.

Sticker, I love it! I will own a Swiss Luger someday as well. Apart from a naval or artillery luger, that is the only kind that I can get without my prohib license. The swiss lugers are also a bit cheaper, I believe...Ive seen artillery lugers go for $3000.

Howdy

I actualy got this in July, but I wanted to be at the start of this month's thread:D

A Model 06/29 Swiss Luger made in September of 42.

Nazis lost...suck it up. :p

Plus they voted in their own destiny...there where very few innocent among them.
About the only one I have respect for (soldier wise) is Rommel.

No, you could get a Finnish luger too ;)

Except that Guderian was an ardent Nazi while Rommel was not. In terms of proficiency as soldiers, yes, both were in the same league. I think Paulus was also under-rated considering the piss-poor support he was given from the Reich, over 1000 miles away from his logistics base.

Worst ever German military leader? It's a tie between Reichsfuhrer Himmler and LuftsMarschal Goering.

Still you hardly see a worse pink slip than Rohm got.

Geez, guys! Is this the "August Purchases " thread or not???

If you want to discuss your favourite WWII German general why not start another thread for it? :bangHead:

Hi Geoff - Lotta mil-surps kicking around there right now. Been tempted by a couple of the real clean No. 4's myself lately but so far have resisted the temptation. Working on another possible 1911A-1 acquisition, instead...

OK fair enough...

Sunday I bought a Sported Swedish Mauser that someone put allot of work into, and it even came with a big pile of reloading stuff for the 6.5x55. I couldn't take it home yet as the CFC is closed on Sundays. :(

At least now I don't have to drill and tap my full wood safe Queen Swede for my hunting trip this season. :D
