Anyone for '49 SKS?

When it can cost over $150 to fill up my truck, the price of those pieces of history doesn't seem all that absurd.
I know it's Apple and oranges but check out the prices of these in the U.S., still a great deal, the price will stabilize soon I think, may even go down a bit in a recession, same as antiques when folks have more disposable income, demand goes up and prices rise!

My concern is not them being refurbed (they clearly were), but rather "enhanced" by one of the importers from the west. It would be nice to see some clear pictures especially of stock cartouches and stock acceptance markings.

While faint there is evidence of cartouches and an acceptance mark. However this stock was lightly sanded during refurbishment / replacement.

The good news is that features found on a 49 appear to be present with this rifle. The firing pin is spring loaded and the front stock ferrule and bayonet channel are period correct. The rifle is blued and the only evidence of paint is on the magazine and it is easily removed by rubbing. Serial numbers all match as found in the usual places including the gas tube, piston and under the rear sight.

I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Oh ya, bore is in very good condition.

Have they been re-stamped based on the above photos?

I've got a 49 coming..and my gun will have been personally handled, used by Chairman Nikita Khrushchev
and no one can prove me wrong LOL
Putin had mine by his bed every night while he was KGB, along with my TT33, he kept my mosin in the closet, kinda like himself! Scratched his initials in the stock VP. And a little heart then DT! Should make my sks worth a couple hundred more!

Nice 39 collection you got there, missing a Rasheed ;)

Thank-you,

My collecting took off after the elimination of the LGR. I was fortunate to be able to rummage through inventory at Canadian tire and Cabalas and purchased SKS's and Mosins when they were under $200.

I know there is a lot of belly aching about current prices. As a rear guard Baby Boomer I feel my age cohort is just getting started. I am at the age where my mortgage is done, no kids to put through school and still working. The baby boomers may affect collectable cold war firearm prices going forward just as we did housing prices in the 90's and Harley Davidsons in the 2000's. Barring legislative changes of course.

Gas tube and carrier look a bit off too. Hell, maybe the whole thing has been re numbered.

Granted the stock is not original to the rifle, it would appear to be a factory refurb. According to Yooper John's SKS's web sight comparing pictures of early bolt carriers, this one passes the sniff test. Also absent is the stepped edges for the stripper clip glide as found on later carries.

Not sure I follow as to what is suspect with the gas tube.

Nice, like the cabinet display too.

It is actually a library from a one room school. My father used it as a kid in the 1930's. The family bought it at auction when the school closed in 1967. I went to 1 day of kindergarten (Halloween party) before they closed the school. After that it was buses for all the country kids.

This one followed me home the other day from a local shop not sure whether I'll keep it or not.

I was wondering if it was one of the current offerings that are referred to.

Seems to be missing the clearing rod. Bore looks pretty good I think.

I am by no means an expert on the SKS although I do have a 54 Izzy in the locker.
