Husqvarna Sporting Rifles #### - ALL MODELS!!!

After wanting a 9.3x62 for a few years, I finally have one from Tradex ... Fn M98 commercial. Pretty darned pleased with it so far, though I've not fired a shot through it yet, and it is currently disassembled and in the midst of getting a thorough detailing and cosmetic tune up. Actually the rifle is a dead ringer for the 8x57 "648" Baribal posted a photo of at the very begining of this sub-forum, some 204 or so pages back.

Initial plans were to top it with a Burris E1 2-7x35 ( because I happen to have one), using Warne Maxima bases (902/830). It is already drilled and tapped for Weaver bases (45/46), which I think are the same spacing. I'm looking at the Warne "weaver style" quick release rings. That being said, I can see two possible issues.

First, the Burris scope tube looks like it just may be too tight a fit between the occular and objective bells. Second, I'm wondering if any scope sitting in the low Warne rings will accomodate the FN's "low swing" safety the right side of the bolt.

I'm hoping that Baribal, or someone else with personal experience scoping an FN Mauser can chime in here with thoughts and/or a bit of advice. I do have a longer tubed 3-9x40 Bushnell Legend I could start with on the rifle if need be.

icedog,

If it's a 9.3mmX62 on a "commercial" FN action, then, it's a model 649. As for the safety, try getting a Buehler safety it will clear the scope bell for sure.

I can't really help on the scope and base questiont, as I never used neither a Burris scope nor a set of Warne on any of my HVA. But if you go ion their website, they hvave an automatic seclector for Mauser, the FN Commercial and there you go...

Dunno if this helps, but it's a 4x32 in low weavers, lots of room, and low weavers are lower then most rings.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. That information is much appreciated.

I will order the Warne bases, and maybe go with the Warne low permanent rings, rather than the quick detach ones. If things don't fit, I'll either replace the safety,as Baribal has suggested, try a different scope, or go to medium height rings.
Hitzy ... very handsome rifle! Similar to the one I have, though the rear sight on mine is a folder, and the stock is the one with the schnabel fore end. I'm assuming those items are original, but am not familiar enough with the Husqvarnas to know that for certain.

Hey Bribal! Just joined the HVA club! What do I got here? Tradex calls it a Comercial M96 in 9.3x62. Ser # 906xx. Has a few dings, stock cracked, a gouge in the barrel and the regular marks in the stock....hope the pics come out ok.

I just plan on shooting factory ammo, not any handloads........yet. Might get some dies in the future. Thinking of getting a few boxes of the cheap Polish stuff.
I don't expect this puppy to be a tack driver, might hammer a bear with it in spring......20-30yrd shot.

What you have is a M649 made mid 1944. Keep in mind that they won't accept full lenght ammo, as per their magazine will only take Norma commercial ammo lenght. Reloading isn't a problem, though.

Thanks! The old recoil pad is hard as rock and the gun seems pretty light. Might get a new one. I tried an empty shell and it doesn't eject it, the shell just starts to move when the bolts pulled fully back. Had to pull it out with my fingers. I still gotta strip it right down and clean it, the lever to remove the bolt is pretty gummed up.

Looks like the extractor tab is sticking out enough, maybe the follower is causing the issue? When the mag is empty I have to push the follower down to close the bolt.

Mausers ejection is based on the speed you pull the bolt back (fixed ejector), if you do it slow it won't eject very well.
The follower may be a military one if you can't close the bolt. The rear can be ground down to a smooth radius like commercial versions very easily if it's a nuisance to you.

It may also only be a matter of extractor pressure, remove the exctractor and bent it carefully so it puts pressure on the bolt head.

Trying to piece together the history of this rifle.

M94

M46A

Proof marks on the the bolt release lever and the pistol grip has a black cap on the bottom. From what I can tell(info provided by Baribal) this rifle was made between 1942 and 1945.

Also these barrels and actions are not as strong as other variants and there may be a safety concern on high pressure reloads. If I buy factory ammo, I shouldn't have to worry about this though as far as I can tell.

The sights on this rifle also look different than most other Husqvarna rifles posted here. And the bolt handle was modified to accept a scope.

Here are the sights

That's a military M/38 metal in a SILE stock... pretty common but not commecrially made by HVA. 100% sure it's neither a M46A/B nor a M94.

M/38 with a sporter stock. I found a couple of listings for the stocks for sale and they match the look. Can anyone tell from what era the action and barrel are from?

Thanks for the info everyone.
