M/38 with a sporter stock. I found a couple of listings for the stocks for sale and they match the look. Can anyone tell from what era the action and barrel are from?
Thanks for the info everyone.
The YOM is stamped under the front scope base. The SN can also be used to determine YOM on military rifles.
I tried to get the front scope base off but one of the screws is so tight it bent/broke 2 screw drivers and the slot in the head is slightly mis-shapen now from the force I put on it, so that is a dead end. I don't want to snap the screw head off and be required to drill out the screw. The SN is 674787 though.
I am starting to see the allure of having original un-modified guns to admire.
I have a couple of questions if someone could answer that would be appreciated(might be difficult to answer though speculation is welcome). Do more modified rifles in these lines exist over unmodified rifles? I see on Trade-Ex that most, if not all, rifles are drilled and tapped - does this make the ones that did not get modified more rare? Also, did these rifles get sold to the public in Sweden/etc and then returned to the factory for modifications or did they sit warehoused, get modified and then sold to the public? It seems crazy to me that all of these rifles were once sold, returned for modification and then sent back out or held to be sold in lots.
The topic of this thread is about Husqvarna commercial offerings.
The rifles like yours were sold as surplus, either to individuals or to companies who modified them in batches (Vapen Depoten, Stiga). But most were bubba's work. A REAL untapped commercial rifle is a collector's item. Bubba's military rifle isn't rare at all... they are 200-250.00 $ worth guns. In Sweden, there was a large variety of aftermarket parts to modify these M94/96 or 38.... and that's what they did, pretty much like ours Lee-Enfield.
If you want collector's value, stick on genuine HVA models and / or to a lesser extent, Carl Gustav's commercial offerings.
Well, not technically a Husky... it's another ex-military rifle in a commercial stock...
Very nice info on the rifle ?
Very nice info on the rifle ?
That's because within the 1337XX to 134### range the rifles SN have inverted "3"... the reason is unknown, but they probably had a bad batch of "3" punches..
