B.C. game hunter's trail of deadly blunders results in 10-year ban

The guy is a ####. Shouldn't be allowed to hunt ever.

It should be legal to sell gall bladders from legally harvested bears.

Reading this lead me to Google gall bladder uses which lead to learning about bear bile farms. The bears are kept in cages so small they cannot turn around to pull out the permanent catheter that's inserted for draining bile. I never would have guessed people would do such a thing.

Does the stuff actually work that good? Maybe it makes your wang grow?

Bear bile has been used in traditional Asian medicine for thousands of years and contains high levels of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) known to be useful for treating liver and gall bladder conditions.

I don't know why people jump to the conclusion that it has some kind of aphrodisiac qualities.

UDCA has been produced synthetically. it doesn't have to come from bears.

Oh well. one less bear means one more moose calf survives! Flame suit on.

You are right.

That is a dimwit remark.

Just because you shoot a bear does not make you a white-hat good guy.

The kind of attitude you show just encourages people to shoot bears for nothing claiming "I'm saving a moose calf/deer fawn."

Shoot a bear if you want, but they have a place in the ecosystem too.

It seems like every Chinese national Canada locks up will result in China randomly locking up a couple of Canadians in retaliation.

well then.... maybe Canadians should stop doing business in China and stop sending products there for mass manufacturing and cheap communist labor eh?
Maybe Canadians should start boycotting chinese products

I like chinese people and some of thier culture is really cool but i have no use for the Chinese Regime.

I don't see why not. Why mandate wasting a part of an animal when sportsmen like to use every part of an animal. If you hunt spring bear in BC you will meet Chinese and Vietnamese folks out there. You don't see them as much in the fall during deer season. I did see an Asian man hunting during the fall and asked if he had seen any deer. "Yes, but I'm bear hunting. I don't have a deer tag."

I wonder what is the meaning of this? Haha.

Not sure if you remember the period of time Ardent mentioned in an earlier post but things were seriously out of control. The illegal stuff was being hidden with the legal gall bladders. In order to get a handle on things the statute came down that no one could be in possession of a gall bladder, period. There was a documentary, maybe W5, that did a show on this. There was a pipeline (not sure if I should use that word in BC :)) direct to China and there was literally boat loads of this type of stuff heading over. If a person harvests a bear and quietly takes their gall bladder home to utilize it, fair enough, but there is big money to be made and we all know how that ends up. I picked up a dead eagle on the right of way one day and had it mounted. I was offered $10,000 for it ( an American not a Chinese) at a time when I was up to my neck in debt. Pretty GD tempting. It is on display at a taxidermist office.

So lets say this poacher shot 25 bears ....how many moose calves would YOU venture to guess the removal of those bears saved? While I don't condone the wasteful killing of the bears, I am saying there is a benefit to his actions too! If given the choice, I'd pick more moose, less bears everyday all day long.

Black bears are 85% vegetarian. Yes, they will occasionally opportunistically eat young ungulates but the popular picture painted by some that they are voracious fawn and calf killers is just plain incorrect.

Sure they are. Some day go for a walk in bear country and blow a fawn bleat call in the spring and I sure hope you are ready to rumble
Cheers

I did last May. Exactly where I saw a big bear the evening before just before dark.

Called in a coyote and a herd of cows.

Don't kid yourself.

Bears are vegetarian when there are no meat sources available. When fawns and calves are dropping, they are not content to eat skunk cabbage.

Holy crap , how can that turd still get a licence after all those offences, I agree with others who say a lifetime ban on hunting and owning firearms along with a huge fine and some jail time are justified. This SOB will be in the news again for hunting without a licence when he returns from China.

Apples and oranges.

That is Alaska brown bears.

I'm not denying black bears being opportunistic omnivores, will take a calf or fawn when they can, but in 43 years of black bear hunting I have found fawn hooves in black bear scat once.

Exactly correct, how do you separate legal gall bladders from illegal ones? You can't so the only way to stop poaching is to make them all illegal.

Douche bags have consequences unfortunately its the rest of us that have to pay

So, aside from being revolted, and rather annoyed that hes essentially getting only a slap on the wrist - when hes shown a clear pattern and should be have his PAL removed and be permanently banned from hunting, or, being present at any hunt, what i wondering about, given he's shown such a lack of ability to do something basic, like identify the difference between a grizzly and a black bear, or, spot the difference between male and female moose - im actually very surprised that he was actually able to hit any animals.

For some reason I would expect that if hes shown complete contempt in that area, he likely isnt a practiced marksman either.

Or, um, he is, and that same work ethic carried through to his hunting and, gasp, he just might have done it deliberately, repeatedly.

Shakes head and wonders aloud.
