I have an interest in a Sako Bavarian in .30-06 but became aware of ejection these rifles have and perhaps some Tikkas as well. Googling "Sako 85 ejection problem" gave me a lot of reading. The spent case strikes the scope tube or turret and most times lands back in the ejection port.

Beretta the new owner of Sako is not interested in fixing this issue and their customer support is ranked rather low. Brownells sells a Sako extractor for the Remington 700 which apparently fixes this issue ...

According to Stoeger they recommend using their expensive and proprietary Optilock base mounts and rings and in medium for lets say a Leupold 3-9X40 which I am pretty sure will not provide a good cheekweld like Leupold rings in low and with no bases needed. The Sako 85 has tapered dovetails and Leupold rings apparently fit fine when in the right placement.

Has anyone here experienced this issue?

Maybe I will just forget about this Sako and look for some other quality wooden .30-06 like a Steyr perhaps?

I've got a bavarian in .338 and I've never had an issue. The 85 ejection "problem" was mostly in the wsm calibers if I remember right.

I love mine and wouldn't trade it for any winchester 70 but that's me.

i bought one back in the day at the store in 30-06 and i returned it the same day after i filmed myself on slow motion ejecting an empty case. the cases where flipping and denting the stock every time. no good for a 2k rifle.

I have one in 7 Rem mag and don't have ejection issues with low ringmounts and a vx3 3.5-10

I have 2. 300win mag and 7mm rem mag. At one time I had a 25-06. Never had an issue. I believe its the short mags that have issues the most. I would take it over a Winchester any day as I also have a Model 70 in 300win to compare to. All my Sakos have the exact scope setup as mentioned above aswell....

You were fortunate, since firearm sales are NO RETURN/REFUND items.

It is not acceptable to purchase a firearm on the expensive side which is supposed to be a known quality product and have such a major problem and Beretta does not care to rectify this as a product flaw and correct.

This problem should either be corrected by the manufacturer for the customer or a refund if they do want to recall/redesign. Totally unprofessional by Beretta and unacceptable and customers should not be taking a purchase risk.

Seems you're well aware of the problem.

Here's the solution to that problem:

My dad has been shooting his model 85 chambered in 270wsm for about 7 years and hasn't had a single issue ejecting spent cases. I think the angle the cases eject at is a touch too steep and if you mount optics too low you might have trouble.

On another note I saw a quick video about this problem. Long time ago and the guy was cycling his bolt so slow to show a problem. In normal use cycling at a reasonable speed it doesn't happen like people complain. My xbolt if cycled at super slow-mo is very likely to not eject brass properly but I've never seen a reason to cycle the bolt that slow. Even on t he bench when sighting in its cycles faster because if you operate the bolt at a comfortable normal speed the brass pops right out.

I had a Bavarian in 30-06, that I bought 3 months ago. It had the ejection issue so I sold it at quite a loss about a month ago. Picked up a tikka t3x and love it.
