New to ar's not sure which would be the better choice for a entry level?
What kind of accuracy can realistically be expected?
Any and all info is much appreciated.
Thanks

Go with a Smith. No reason not to since the prices are comparable between the two. Give or take a few dollars. This is not to say anything is wrong with a Norinco. I had one and it was rock solid. Fit and finish wasn't the greatest, but I didn't buy it to eye fukced. It never once gave me any issues. Hell I even paid close 1000$ for it back in the day when that was a good deal.

Accuracy is dependent on shooter and ammunition. Shooting between 2 and 3 Moa (2 to 3 inch groups) is not unreasonable at 100 meters if the shooter can do his part. A very good shooter and speceific load developed tailored for the AR15 can get the MOA down to 1.5 or thereabouts.

S&W has warranty, Norinco does not.
S&W is compatible with all milspec parts, Norinco is not
S&W is built in USA by people who build guns, Norinco is built in China by people/children who do what they're told to do.

Norinco usually work just fine but why bother when you can buy US made for nearly the same price?

Not a hard decision

THe norinco is alctially sort of neat as it has a crude military surplus thing going on. But the smith is a much higher quality rifle, pretty much down to ever part that goes into an AR. Plus warranty.

I will bet every dollar in my bank that a Norc AR15 will go round for round with any low to mid (and even some "upper") price range stock military config AR15's from North America with the same reliability and accuracy. Any day all day.
Couple that with the price tag for one off the EE...
Fit and finish is rougher? Sure 100% agree. I say this from much personal experience beating the #### out of Norinco AR's for many years. A lot of Norinco products are hit and miss. This is true. But the Norinco AR15's are not one of them.
Reliability, functionality of Norinco AR15's is phenomenal. They're not ideal for modding/hanging plastic junk off them. Not all parts are North American compatible without minor fitting etc

I tell people to this day if you want a rough, dirty work horse AR15 that you just want to beat the hell out of, then a $400 Norc AR15 off the EE is exactly what they need comrade!

If you're buying brand new and want to dress it up in fancy clothes then the S&W is probably a better path.
I prefer to buy dirty communist hardware for peanuts off the EE and shoot them as is until I can't afford ammo anymore lol I also like to see how hard I can beat them....I get a sick enjoyment out of dropping them on the ground, slamming mags into them as hard as I can, trying to rip the charging handle off, firing 10 10rnd mags as fast as possible and dunking the rifle in the drainage ditches at the range to cool it down....
Trust me, the Norinco AR15's are tough-mother-f**king guns and are made to go the distance.

My first AR was a Norc. Always went boom and never let me down and price was cheap. That said, had the Smith&Wesson been available for a similar price like it is today, I would never have bought the Norc.
Go with the Smith...But the Norinco/Dominion Arms AR15 won't make you sad.

I've also seen DPMS Oracles going for $600 these days too - Another great entry level gun.

Besides aesthetics there isn't much to separate them.

I personally think the Norinco is a more interesting gun to own, though that being said you can't take it to the states.

This got me thinking..... Whatever happened to this:

Ha!

The tests happened....albeit over time...
I never did record video though but I assure you it took it like a champ :D
The only one I stopped short of was blasting it with #7 12ga but that's only because I had no ammo for the shotgun. Oh and the tanerrite. I did not manage to get that one done.
The rest were "applied" to my rifle and it survived functional and good to go!

We couldn't drag it down a road so we tied 20m of para cord to the muzzle and flung it round and round in a circle on the hard pack dirt for 2 minutes lolol. Went for a jog with it trailing it behind us.

Sounds like a good time

Are you buying new? S&W hands down.
Are you buying used? Norinco for sure.

People are asking basically full retail price on the EE for used S&Ws yet the Norinco owners are willing to take a hit and sell 'em cheap. I'd take a 400$ Norinco over a 600$ S&W for a starter AR all day, every day.

I might be biased, though, I don't go to the US and much prefer the 14.5" barrel.
