So I recently discovered that the AR-10 predates the ar-15 and is therefore classified as a non-restricted rifle. Also, I want to build my own AR-15/10, and I want to have rifles I can fire on my parents 4 acre property without facing jail time.
So here's my idea: build an AR-10, that way I can take it to my parents and shoot away. BUT!! I've heard horrible stories about guys building AR-10s only for them to be classified .308 caliber AR-15s... So how do I make sure this doesn't happen? What is the difference mechanically/technically between the two? (Aside from caliber.) And what's the best AR-10 receiver set to start with?
