Sight Alignment

I own a S&W M&P 2.0.
This is my first handgun.
I noticed that if I align the top of the sights with the center of the target, I hit low. In order to hit the center of the target, I have to raise the front sight above the rear sight (tilting the gun up). See image below. I have been shooting at 9m and 12m (that's the available length).
My first instinct is to adjust the front sight, if that's even possible. But I'm sure there's a reason for my alignment issue. Is this a result of improper grip? Lowering/tilting my head? Something else?
What's a good way to figure out what's causing this?

The M&P is set up so when the sights are aligned your poi is where the front sight dot is, align the sights and but the dot on top of what you want to hit. Drive the dot, at least this is how my gen1 came from the factory.

Since it’s your first pistol it could also be your trigger press, you might be pulling the shot and yanking on the trigger in anticipation of the shot breaking.

I'm going to go back to the range and take a video of myself shooting, to see if I'm flinching.

You have to be really anticipating for it to show on video. Better to do the dummy round drill. Have someone load your M&P with dummy rounds. You’ll know if you’re flinching when you go click instead of bang.

Also, dry firing will identify if you’re pulling, pushing or jerking your trigger. Watch your front sight carefully for movement.

This is the sight picture we were taught to use when people called our sport “combat shooting”. It was how we adjusted our Bomar Sights.

Great for games then. All you wanted then were A zone hits from 3 yds to 15. And this sight picture was the quickest to acquire and considering the high and narrow A zone, it guaranteed the quickest and highest probability of As. Just be sure you acquire the front sight first, then center it on the Center of Mass.

With proper grip, the rear sight usually fell into place by itself. And draw and fire practice will hone your muscle memory.
